I've read all your posts for and against affirmative action and was just curious as to the extent of affirmative action. Does it help non-URM minorities (like Hispanics from South America)?

not officially. only mexicans and puerto ricans are considered as urm under the current definition. however, i have been told that it could be slightly advantageous informally at some schools.

i agree with azpremed...

according to the stats from 1998's admitted class, fewer non-URM hispanics would be admitted in the absense of AA, which suggests that they do gain some advantage in the admissions process compared to other ORMs.
