DAT done today, 08/10/2010!! Get my life back!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
when you say KBB isn't sufficient for QR do you mean that the content of the DAT goes beyond the scope of the book or the problems are set up on the DAT require more thought? I personally know people who have earned very respectable QR scores on the DAT using kaplan only yet almost everybody on this site is using something else. KBB leaves a lot of stuff out conic sections, permutations, pvalue, so i have switched to an SAT II math book that covers more ground. My concern is that i am wasting time and energy relearning aspects of math (ellipses, parabola, formulas eg) that may not be tested. thanks

You don't wast your time my friend. You need those stuffs (conic section, permutations, combinations, pvalue...). DAT goes beyond the scope of KBB.
Good luck with your exam.

Wow! Great scores! Congratulations 🙂
You are still not late (I'm taking mine this Monday 🙁 ). You have great scores so no shadowing experience might not hurt you as much. But just to be on the safe side, try to start shadowing someone so that at least you can mention that you have started it. Also look for schools that don't rely on shadowing experiences much.

Can you tell what RC passages you had?
Also, for bio, what were the topics of the questions that seemed really hard?

Thanks and goodluck!

Thanks a lot, ncmucla.
About RC, I had drug resistance, herbal medicine, and the healing of bone fragture.
BIO, I think it was not so hard but I did not prepare for some of them. I think they are in chapter 19-21 of Campbell book. I did not have time to read them carefully but skimmed the titles of each section. 🙁

Good luck with your exam!

hello,

i want to take my test sometime in february 2011. i took the kaplan course over the summer but did not find the class itself helpful so now i am focusing on their online material. i see used the KBB to study... they did not give me that book as part of the course, just the big review book and the lesson book.

do you recommend me buying the KBB?

Hi jojohanna,
KBB is sufficient for GC and OC. For Bio, I suggest KBB+CliffsAP Bio. You can use CliffsAP Bio to review for plants and photosynthesis which are not mentioned in KBB. For QR, you need some other sources which have conic section, permutations, combinations, pvalue... For PAT, you can use some basic concepts from KBB and this awsome thread :http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=528643.
So, IMO, you can use KBB as a main material and then some supplemental materials for Bio, QR, and PAT.
Hope this will help!🙂
