Good Luck!

I did my interview Jan 15th. Haven't heard anything else yet, but I've got my fingers crossed.

I was wondering how you all feel about the loan situation for St. George's?
I have read a number of other posts about how the interest accrues right away and how it is hard to get a private loan.
What do you all think?

Hey RobDude how was the interview process? What it just the normal, why do you want to be a vet? How can St. George help you in achieving this goal, etc.?

Hey anjabryn! I havent read too much about the loan situation which I should probably start looking at.

It felt a little weird at first. Since we don't go to the actual school; it all felt really informal. I basically met the interviewer in the lobby of my hotel.

But once I got there and met the guy doing the interview, it wasn't bad at all. It still felt a bit informal, but I liked it. I didn't feel like you were getting grilled or quizzed; mostly he just looked at stuff from my app and asked me to talk about what I did, etc, etc.. The only real 'hard' question was 'How do you feel about lab animals/testing on animals'' - I don't remember how it was worded exactly. I also don't know what the right answer was, or what they were looking for.

They did talk a lot about the school and it can help you achieve your goals and that stuff. But it was good info.

I'm still hoping for a US school, for location/cost/loan reasons; but I've also been looking at the island a lot and, I have to say, it seems like a really cool place.

Thanks for the feedback!!! I am doing my interview at the animal hospital that the doctor works at. I pretty much gave up on the US schools (I got on the interview waiting list for one and rejected by all the others). The more I look at St. George the more I like it and hey 80 degree weather year round sounds great right about now (we are expecting a snow storm predicting 20 inches). Hopefully all goes well at my interview. I am very excited for it!!

I have an interview next week!! What was your interview like??!?! Any pointers?

I think it stinks 🙂

I don't really know how hard it is to get private loans, but....I'm an older non-traditional-type. I've got an established credit history and should have enough cash that I won't need a lot of loans (I'll be selling my house and should have a nice sum left over).

Has anyone decided to attend SGU?

Looks like I'll be sending in my deposit this week.

I had my interview earlier this month. Such a positive experience! But still waiting to hear back.

Hey guys. I hope your interviews went well. I posted on here a few weeks ago, the great news that SGU is now approved for federal loans, so you will be receiving the exact same loans you would have taken out if you went to a U.S. school.

We also have our final AVMA site visit scheduled for April so now is a great time to be starting at St. George's University.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!

I will be attending in August!!!! The interview was a great experience it ended up being like 1.5 hours because we just kept talking!! They just received my deposit as of today. I am sooooo excited!!!!!!

Congrats Robdude. I have decided to apply to St. George's as well. How long did it take for you to receive your acceptance after your interview? Who did you interview with and where did you interview? You are from Colorado, right? Would love to know about your experiences so we fellow SDNers know what to expect 😉 Thank you, and again, congratulations!!

Now that SGU is approved for Federal Loans, what are the chances a student starts in August and the following year SGU no longer has Federal loan approval? Can something like this happen? Since SGU has been approved, are students guaranteed the option of Federal Funding, or is this something that can be later revoked from the University?

Yeah, I am also wondering how long it took for you to receive your acceptance?? My interview was the first week of February, and I am anxiously waiting.

Sorry I didn't update sooner!

My interview was awesome. I live in CO but did the interview in AZ. Honestly, I thought it was a tiny bit weird, because we just met in the lobby of my hotel; but if you stop and think about it - it makes perfect sense. Flying to SGU would be a LOT of money.

The interview was pretty laid back. It was 1-on-1 with a former SGU student who is now a full-fledged vet practicing in the US.

I hate to say it, but my initial thoughts about SGU were pretty low. For no reason other than it was outside the US/not accredited. But everything I learned about the school (from their mailings, their website, the interview, the island, tuition (it's cheaper than some OOS schools, by a large margin) etc...) really changed my mind. And now they've got the Federal Loans (and my hunch is that they'll be AVMA very soon, just like Ross and the Mexican Univ). I really think it's a great school.

I think it was about six weeks after my interview that I was offered acceptance.

Sadly, I won't be attending SGU; but it's strictly because of my significant other/availability of jobs on the island. I'm honestly a little bummed about that, I was really starting to fall in love with living on the island and going to SGU.

Good luck everyone waiting to hear.

I don't think that's likely or possible. In fact, we're all very optimistic about accreditation.

I'm catching the St. George's fever apparently. It's outranked my choices of US schools already...and my first round of applications isn't until this Fall. Reading all of your messages makes me even more excited.

Hey I'm a VT student who just received notice that I've been granted an interview with SGU. How long did it take after you found out about the intereview to get information about when/where? i'm about ready to go crazy waiting!

Also, on the SGU stats page for the vet program, it says that 100% of interviewed applicants get accepted. Is that really true?

Does anyone know anything about bringing guinea pigs to the island? I have a piggie and I'm really hoping to bring her with me (I know St. Kitts has rules against it though) but wasn't sure what Grenada's policies were (in addition to it likely being tough to find an airline...)

I've read old interview threads saying that there is an essay component to the interview, is this still true?

Thanks! I'm really nervous/excited because I really like SGU and really want to go there in the fall! I also really don't want to spend another year waiting to get into a DVM program unless I absolutely have to

It took about 1 week after I found out that I had an interview to hear about the when and where of my interview and I scheduled it for a couple of days after that. I have also heard about 100% of people interviewed get accepted but I don't know if this is true for all classes but I sure hope so! I did have to write an essay at my interview but it was really easy there is three topics and you just pick one of them. I don't know about bring guinea pigs to the island. I have 2 rabbits and have been trying to find a way to bring them. I am having a hard time to find an airline that will allow 2 rabbits on board

Hey jmo1012!
Congrats on your interview invite! When I got my invite I think I got my location and who it was with, within a couple of weeks. SGU emailed me all the information and I contacted the person to set up a date. I had my interview in Feb. and got my acceptance 10 days from that! They still make you do the essay, but it isnt bad at all. The lady I interviewed with was AWESOME. She made it seem just like a conversation, the whole thing lasted approximately 1.5 hours because we just kept talking 🙂 Good Luck with your interview!!! I will be attending in the fall and cannot wait!!!
