Hey guys, I currently applying to DO school and though I am very hopefully and have a descent shot at getting in, I was wondering which post bacc programs and/or SMPs are typically good if you want to be a Osteopathic medical student? Which are more or less competitive?

I am currently in UMDNJ's master of biomedical science program in Stratford and it has done wonders for me. My experience is that most osteopathic medical schools will look favorably on your graduate degree, as long as you do well. UMDNJ-SOM in particular will actually "flip" your GPA, which means they no longer factor in your undergraduate GPA and will only use your masters GPA from that program after you finish. I am applying now to osteopathic schools so I could always let you know how this program was for me but I imagine this will help me. I had a lower undergrad GPA and now have a very high graduate GPA. Also you have the opportunity of taking medical school classes and the professors who teach our classes also teach the medical school classes. They have done a really good job with this program and students have an extremely high success rate of moving onto some kind of professional schooling. If you want any more information on this program in particular let me know.

Thanks so much I will definitely look into that program! I'm also applying to DO schools right now and I'm looking for back up plans lol... Thanks again and best of luck to you!

I definitely recommend attending a post-bacc at an actual DO school...you almost always get an interview by default and I'd like to think they give at least some preference to those who do well. And an added bonus for the one at DCOM is taking anatomy with the med students- why? If you get in, you don't have to take anatomy during your first year!! Almost wish I'd done the program for my year following undergrad :)
