Hi guys,

Traditionally a D1 comes here to answer question predents applying to LLUSD may have so I figured I would do this. LLUSD is a great place to be, we're in our third week of a 3 week Biochemistry/Physiology class now. It may take me a second to respond, but if you have any questions about classes, the interview process, or whatever feel free to ask me. Best of luck in your interviews guys, it really is a lot of fun when you finally get in...which each of you will at some point, with enough perseverance. Wishing you all the best, and hope to meet you soon!

Thanks for being on here 🙂
I'm pretty confused, I turned in my secondary on September 8th, 2011. They requested a reference letter from a spiritual leader yesterday, and today I got an interview invitation for LLUSD. I'm supposed to call and schedule for my interview, so should I do that asap?

Yeah do it Asap! I called RIGHT when I got the invitation and one of the days (which was the most convenient for me) was already filled 👎

Was it October 12? I'll call early tomorrow!! Does LLUSD offer rolling admission?

How much is tuition? One llu student on here told me that he pays 63k a year but on the website it says its about 80-90k a year! Did it really go up that much in one year? Oh, and Im not SDA, actually I'm not even Christian at all, do the SDA and non-SDA students form separate clicks or anything like that?

No I wanted September 14th, but signed up for Oct 12th because it was filled

tuition is 63k, but with books, fees, instruments, etc, it's more like 70k, and that does NOT include living expenses.

How would you compare LLU's interview process to that of other schools you interviewed at? What suggestions do you have in terms of preparing? Thanks!! 🙂

would u say LLU over UCLA or UCSF even if LLU costs more? I know a lot of people would say thats a dumb question but I dont care about prestige...and I know you're a student there and are a little biased lol

i can't compare b/c i have only been to one school. i didn't even interview at the UCs. All I know is that the clinical education here is excellent.

Haha yeah you're right. How would you be able to compare? Makes no sense!

Can you talk more about the clinical education at LLU?

Also what's the difference between group days and individual interview?

I couldn't believe this, I woke up and called them around 8:13AM today, and group days are filled until Dec 7, so I had to schedule for individual on the last week of September.

Oh wow this filled up quick. Sorry guys, but it looks like lemoncurry has helped you, so thanks LC!!!

It was a lot different. I interviewed at ASDOH and back home at my home state in the southeast. LLU seems to be a lot more focused on what makes you interesting & what makes you tick as a person. Common topics are obviously religion, but you talk a lot about your journey along the way and a lot about your family. Be genuine when people ask you questions, no one comes from a perfect home and obstacles are what build character for us. The drift I got from my interviewer is that he wanted me to come up with some things I've struggled with in the past and to tell how I used my faith in God to keep pushing and make it here. LLU has a VERY strong clinical program (as LC has already mentioned), so you need to ask them questions about this too. Also, mission trips are an integral part of our mission here...so if this is a sincere interest of yours', bring it up. This is one of the main things that attracted me to LLUSD. Just relax and be yourself, the interview here is BY FAR less stressful than any other you will ever go to. They know you have the stats/ECs...else you wouldn't be here. Now, it's time to illustrate what makes you so different (diverse) from everyone else. Diversity is a good thing, as it should be. I've met so many different interesting people from all walks of life...and it's been a blast so far. Good luck and if I can help you anymore please don't hesitate to ask! Hope to see you here!

Thanks so much for that insightful post! I'm really excited for my interview at LLU and would LOVE to be a part of the 2016 class 🙂

It's funny because I was in your exact spot a year ago. It really says a lot though that your interview is so early (a great thing).

That makes me even more excited 😀 Thanks for the positive thoughts... totally looking forward to my LLU interview even more now.

This thread is getting me so excited for my LLU interview! I only have the one interview so far but I am really happy it came as early as it did. I received my invite via email on 9/7 and by the time I called to schedule my interview (an hour after I received the email) the first two group days were already booked so I scheduled myself for an individual day for the last week of September. From what I understand, the group days offer a group tour of the school and a luncheon with current dental students in addition to the personal interview, of course. The individually scheduled interview days get a private tour of the school as well as the interview, so you only miss out on the luncheon. Although I prefer to attend the group day I wanted to get in as soon as possible especially since I am in school and want to avoid leaving town in the middle of exams. I am really hoping that being in this first group will help all of our chances. From the looks of this thread everyone interviewing at LLU seem great! I asked Cindy, from admissions, how many applicants they interview and she said between 375 and 425, for about 100 spots. So it looks like we have about a 25%. Does anyone know how much our chances improve being interviewed in the first couple groups?

Also, I know the first group interview day was today so if anyone has any info about their experience it would be greatly appreciated!

Well you did the right thing IMO to go ahead and interview early. As I've said before it says a lot that you guys are being interviewed so early. I interviewed last year around the last week of October, so you're a month or so ahead of me. You're definitely right, they don't seem to waste a lot of time with interviews here on people they don't want to accept (like other schools). I actually believe that if you're interviewing this early, (not to get your hopes too far up lol) that you have about a 50/50 shot. It's up to you in the interview to sway the odds more in your favor. I could be completely wrong about this, but I would venture to guess that 60-70 (maybe more) of the total 100 slots are filled before December. It's really funny because the months leading up to you starting D-school, you will be scared to death of how much it costs since you don't have to worry about "just getting in" anymore. It's true that there is always something to worry about! It has been pretty stressful so far (to be expected), but it's the most fun I've ever had. One good thing I can say about the upper-classmen is that they go out of their way to be kind and help you as much as possible. The D2s always make sheets out for the D1s to give them advice on specific classes and how to make it through them during your orientation, and this was the most helpful thing I received in the first week. Anyways, good luck to all of you...we're all very excited to hopefully meet you someday soon!!!

i had my interview with Dr. Kasischke, at the end he gave me a toothbrush as a souvenir, it was just basic family & experience questions and it was very relaxing, he went through the curriculum & requirements at LLUDS, it was a blind interview too, he said that they will get all of my stuff (gpa/dat/letters/essays/activities) together and look at it then the committee will vote, so ill hear back from them between dec-april, now i'm worried -__-

This week I was invited for an interview at LLU. I called the very same day I got the email and they didn't have anything until JAnuary 5th. Is there any way I can call them and have them interview me if someone cancels? I assume the earlier the better.

I'm super excited! And LLU is my number one choice. Is January Too late for an interview? I'm hoping I'm not just a guy to interview to be put on the wait list just in case they don't completely fill their class.

Also, I don't know if I'm interviewing on a group day or having individual day? How do you know which category I fall into.

Anyway, let me know what you all think.

Hey I got the invite earlier this week and called at that time and the earliest was Jan. 11th so I feel your pain/confusion. I am paranoid about it because it is so far away and they didn't send a confirmation or anything.

not to worry about post Dec interviews. Dec 1 acceptances won't even be half of the class.

Random question... i know the SDA faith practices the sabbath on saturday. So does the school like shut down or anything on saturday? Do you still have access to the facilities?

Do SDA's study on saturday, go out, watch football?

I am not trying to be disrespectful in any way, but does being at a SDA school affect your social life on saturdays? Are your classmates willing to hang out or study on saturdays with you?

Thanks!!

the school is virtually shut down on saturdays. What you do during that time is up to you. You will have plenty of classmates who will do stuff on saturdays.

What is the difference between a phone interview and an interview in person? are phone interviews bad?

If you have the choice of having a phone interview or going in to interview, I would definitely fly in to talk to them face to face. It shows that you're serious about this school.
