Can we get a list going of new content in the new version of First Aid 2012?

I heard there was a lot of new info added this year that might be useful to know, especially for those of us interested in taking the exam this spring.

Thank you in advance 🙂

Thanks for your response. Although, these threads really don't address the issue I'm talking about. Sure there is talk about there "not much of a difference", but that's pretty vague.

Also, thumbs down? was that really neccesary?

Here is a thread for the differences between 2010 and 2011, as you can see, there were quite a LOT of differences between those two, mostly deletions.

Id like to see a list like this for the new edition. It might be picky, but it is useful information.

Well what do you expect? Do you expect someone to flip through the books and say that Pg 124 they clarify Staph Aureus better? Obviously there the differences are slim, just like any other text book that come out with new editions. Its always the same: they change a few pictures, remove a few phrases, and add a few new ones.

Also, you have what..... 2 posts? And you basically came on here and asked people to do your dirty work, a tedious time consuming and pointless task

(before you attempt to say anything about my post #, this is my new account as my last account got messed up, but i had 1000+)

I recently moved all of my notes from the 2011 edition to the 2012 edition, and trust me, there are differences: content is organized slightly better and there is some new information, however, I didn't notice many things that were removed from the 2011 edition. If nothing else, it's nice to look at all of them pretty pictures in color

I find the index is pretty weak (thin) compared to the 2011 version. If you look at the supplemental Basic Science and Organ Systems, the index in 2012 FA is more along those lines. Not sure why that happened. Otherwise can't complain - pictures in derm pathology are helpful...

Just as a heads up, as someone who took it using an older edition, your scores will already be pretty good by the time the differences in editions start to matter. Most of what you learn is gonna be from the qbanks (namely usmleworld if you're doing it right). Even though what's in FA changes/increases year to year, the core concepts that are tested on step 1 don't change that much. As an anecdote, most of my friends scored 250+ with the older editions.

Agree. If you're relying on First Aid enough to notice differences between editions, you're doing it wrong.

Haven't looked at 2012 much, but I do know they added stuff about spontaneous pneumothorax to the respiratory section that wasn't there in 2010.

That's my fairly useless contribution.

Content schmontent....2012 is in COLOR and that's all that matters 🙂

I'm with GraceEuphoria. I checked out my friend's FA 2012 yesterday and now I just can't look at mine in the same way... I'm so disgusted by its cheap pages and lack of color! I think that this will make all the difference in my enthusiasm to study for Step 1. :xf::laugh:

but the errata is not out yet. i wonder if it will be OK risking learning some wrong stuff inside

last year's FA 2011 full/complete errata came out only in August.. http://firstaidteam.com/?page_id=6

How many people actually memorize every fact in first aid to the point that 5 or 6 errors out of thousands of facts are going to make or break your STEP score?
