First, if Touro University California is one of your first choices for med school, then I highly recommend this program. Your class will be our third class. So far the first two classes ('11, '12) everyone that applied to TUCOM got in. So we have a 100% acceptance rate into the medical school from this program so far. The first class there was 11 students. 10 applied, 10 got in. My class there was 11 students, 7 applied and got in, 2 have not taken their MCAT yet so they are taking it this summer and applying for the cycle after, 1 is applying to PhD, and one had to take a medical leave of absence.

The program prepares you really well for Med school. about 1/5 of your lectures are with the medical students, and the rest are just with your class. There is an anatomy course with full cadaver dissection that you take with the PA students that is intensive. Your professors teach the Med Students, and many are also on the admissions committee. The program is fairly rigorous and you will be working very hard. This program will allow you to strengthen any weaknesses had from undergrad.

The curriculum includes anatomy, biochemistry, molecular cell biology, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology, and research. If there was something I did not like about the program it was the lack of communication between the professors about certain classes.

I live in American Canyon, but you can also live in Vallejo or on the Island, and also Benicia is a nice place to live.

Again, I really recommend this program if you are planning to come to Touro university for medical school.I had a great time and it was a great opportunity for me.

Hopefully I gave you some useful information, good luck on your decision. In the meantime, here is a copy and paste of what I wrote to a person who wanted to know more:

I joined the facebook page to learn more about the curriculum and to ask questions. I do know that there is one member who is from the previous year. So there could be potentially 9 spots left. Based on last year's discussions 2011-2012, it sounds like people were taken off the waitlist in July...

The deadline for those who were accepted to reserve their seat is this Friday June 8th. I'm sure you'll hear back from admissions soon after that date...

Nice to know! Thanks!

has anyone else heard from touro?

I haven't heard yet. Still early 🙂

likewise, still haven't heard nada out here in wait list purgatory. Still hopeful! Does anyone know when the official start date (not just orientation) of the program is?

I mean, maybe Rowbee can enlighten us. 🙂

Either August 3 or 6.

Looks like there is wait list movement already. I received my acceptance letter yesterday =)

Wow, congrats!! Would you mind giving me your stats? (GPA, MCAT, research experience?)

Congrats! I called and I was emailed that all notifications regarding waitlist status will be sent in July.

Thanks heyroth!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you !!!

Orientation is Aug 1. Decisions would probably be made pending on who does/doesn't show up.

waitlisted =(

waiting to hear back from Touro. Steven emailed me saying updates will sent out in a week or two. Let's hope for the best and Congrats to all of you who are already accepted =)

Hi, since you already did this program. Do you know if any students from the wait list are accepted??

Thanks congrats on your success

I believe at least 1/2 of the class of 2012 were from the waitlist. Again, for those on the waitlist.... Don't loose hope.

Sent from my iPad using SDN Mobile app

Not me... last e-mail I received was 7/10 saying to expect a final e-mail around the first week of Aug.

I got nothing here. They are not inviting stand-by this year.

Hopefully we hear back soon, I don't think anyone from acceptance list has dropped. I know this year they extending from 10 to 15 students, It would be nice if they can extend it a little more so we are all given the opportunity. Well good luck everyone

Does anyone have an idea about the number of applicants? Thanks

This program usually only holds 10 spots but this year they made it 15(unless this had been changed). I hope that's what you were asking.

Did anyone from the wait-list hear back yet? Orientation is tomorrow so I'm guessing we should be receiving a final email with the last update.

I was asking if anyone knew the approximate amount of applicants (applications submitted). I am trying to get an idea of the competitiveness of the program.

Thanks

This is what was said in the email, "Of the well over 2,000 potential candidates for this program, only 350 were invited to apply." I think the program is pretty competitive since there's only 10 seats (this year 15) and thousands of students applying. Good luck with the application process if your considering the program.

I guess they didn't move anyone from the wait list this year. I thought they were going to sent an email by August 1st in regards to the update.

I still have not received an e-mail...

There was some movement in late June, early July....but Touro does not release the specifics. Im not sure how many people were accepted off the wait list.

Good luck this year!

Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you could tell me when I can start applying for the Fall 2014 semester? Also, sorry if I'm using this wrong...this is my first forum post ever lol thanks in advance!

oh and my "stats" as of right now are a 3.1 cGPA from the University of California Berkeley and a sGPA of a 2.8! I was wondering if any of you could let me know whether that would qualify for admission into the MSMHS program at TU?

I'm hoping to revive this thread to past students that can help. I just got into this program and have to decide between Touro CA and Midwestern MABS. I am also on the waitlist for UCSD's postbac...
I am wondering more information about this program. They just decided to change the size of the program to 60 students! So that will probably change a lot about the environment. But, from what you've experienced, what did you think of the program? Was it very helpful in getting you into med school? How was living in the area? School, teachers, how hard the classes/program was? Any information is helpful. If you have any opinions on my predicament of which school to attend, please share your opinion as well.

Thank you!

BTW other students might find this info helpful and there are two links for current applicant forums, so feel free to respond there if you want:
