I really don't know much about the Cali schools but from everything I've heard, they're some of the hardest to get into in the country - even for residents! As someone with an "average GPA" (still better than mine though) and a 26 on your record, I'd say maybe leave off the California schools.

As far as the NY schools go, I hear a lot about the magic "3.7 and 32" for NY schools. You're really close to being in that category, so I'd say give them all a shot (except maybe Cornell).

It looks like you definitely have a good mix of reach and safety schools though. Good luck!

Hah haven't heard of the magic "3.7 and 32" for NY schools but lets hope! And in terms of Cali schools I know UCLA is a longshot but if money isn't an issue I would like to at least try. However, does USC favor in-state heavily?

Took out UCLA, Arizona, Cornell, Dartmouth and FAU. Added Brown, Tulane, SUNY Buffalo and Rosalind Franklin in an attempt to add more realistic schools. Is this list broad enough?

Almost identical stats as me. Similar EC's except you have more extensive research. School list is similar too. Good idea taking out UCLA, even with excellent stats still a shot-in-the-dark for a NY resident. I hear Brown has a pretty strong preference for their own undergrads, I would switch that and Dartmouth if you've reached a limit. My buddy last year got an interview at Dartmouth, reject from Brown last year who had pretty typical resume. Just my 2 cents, good luck!

If you're Russian, Brown likes that. They're into lots of diversity.

Yea I was actually born in Moscow, immigrated to NYC and to this day Russian is the only language I speak at home. While Brown is definitely a reach and I know they tend to save a good amount of seats for their BS/MD program, I would still love to go there. I think I'll just add Dartmouth and see what happens. Haven't even considered Creighton since its all the way out in Nebraska...
Again thanks for the advice! My biggest concern is having a well rounded list with enough safeties/matches and not too many reaches.

Bump? Anyone? I would ideally like to re-submit today or tomorrow.

I'm not sure where you heard that, but that doesn't sound right at all

I think you have a very good and appropriate list for your stats, you need to submit ASAP

Thanks, still waiting to get verified, submitted on July 26th so hopefully should be good to go in the next week or so.

I think I worked on your PS, right? Any word on the verification. Your MCAT is similar to mine but my MCAT is pretty balanced. My cGPA is 3.8 and sGPA is a 4.0. Your list looks good to me, I think pretty broad. I'm only applying to about 16 schools because I needed to try to cut it down for financial reasons. If I can make some more money before it gets too late I may add a few big time reaches (Cornell, Yale, and Columbia).

I don't think Miami is a reach for you, you are right around their average and they are expanding their OOS acceptance this year as part of the transition to a private university. They also love diversity. If you do apply there, please make sure to get a jump start on their secondary this late in the in the game. I got it 3 days ago and it's still not done, it's taking forever. In fact, pre-write as many as possible because its starting to approach the later part of the "regular" season. If you are applying to 20+ schools I wonder if I'm going for too few with 16. It seems like a big list when I look at it.

My pre-med adviser from a school in New York. Do you think those numbers are too high or too low?

EDIT: This doesn't include Columbia and Cornell. Also, the term "magic numbers" doesn't refer to numbers that practically guarantee admission, but rather to minimum numbers needed to have a decent shot at NY schools (provided you are not URM).

That seems more realistic if you disclude Columbia/Cornell, though i thought you had said for all NY med schools

Columbia, Cornell, and Mt Sinai, all have median MCAT's at around a 36 and GPA's > 3.8. Although NYU and Einstein also have 33-34 medians too but also with GPA medians ~3.8. Of course people do get in with numbers below that, provided they have a well balanced application.

For the SUNY's and NYMC, those numbers you mentioned are definitely in line, though I would argue 33 is more likely the magical number.

Just saw your post haha... got verified 9/4 and have roughly half of my secondaries in. Miami and NYU are tough tho, should have those done in the next couple of days 🙄

So as I'm submitting my secondaries, I'm a bit worried I didn't apply to enough lower-tier schools. Can anyone suggest 1-2 more lower-tier medical schools that may be worth applying to given my stats. Thanks!
