    Applying to a Backup Specialty when Applying to Derm, other competitive specialties

    I thought I'd start this as it seems to be a common inquiry as well as personally for me. Is there any good way to gauge if applying to a backup specialty is necessary/worth the time when applying to more competitive specialties such as Dermatology, Orthopedics, etc.?
