Hey all,

I had two interviews, one denial and other wait listed. KCU-COM and LECOM-E, respectively. I have a 504 on MCAT (122 CARS, YIKES!) and 3.40-3.50 GPA without getting into detail, more than 100 hours volunteering/shadowing/clinical experience, way way over.

1. What are my odds of coming off the LECOM-E wait list
2. Should I be panicking about not receiving more interviews. I know the "Thanksgiving Rule".
3. Should I start studying for the MCAT again and prep for next cycle? Post-Bac is out of the question, I have to work and I have many other obligations. Which kind of sucks.

I'm sorry about your dilemma. First of all, dont panick just yet. KCU is a very competitive program so if you got an interview there I think you have a good shot of getting interviews elsewhere. Where all else did you apply?

ATSU-SOMA/KCOM, LECOM-B, MSU-COM are the only schools left on the DO list.
The MD list I still have Wayne, MSU, Oakland, Toledo, etc...

How many DO schools did you apply to? It’s not too late to add a couple more, is it? I remember reading that as long as you get app in by thanksgiving, you have a decent chance.

Did you apply mainly Midwest? What about ACOM?

What other schools did you apply to? Did you receive a DO LOR? It’s still fairly early so I wouldn’t worry too much yet, especially with your stats.
No DO LOR, but I have two MD LORs. One of them was a Wayne State professor and is pretty well known at Wayne State so hopefully that is enough to get me an interview at Wayne Med at least.

I was curious about applying to more, would that be a good move? I didn't apply ACOM.

I interviewed at ACOM, it is a bit newer but it is a pretty great campus.

Others may give you more info. Ask @Goro and the rest of the band on applying to more.

You should apply to ACOM.

Get info from SDN on what schools.

Your stats should get you more looks.

See, there is hope. Look forward, just more secondary writing, you got this.

This process goes until spring, don’t give up hope.

504 seems really low for MD. Apply to more DO schools!!!!

That fits into 10th percentile at some schools, several in the Midwest. Obviously, difficult to get into MD but not impossible as schools have accepted those scores in the past.

But, yes, apply to more DO schools as it fits better with their averages.

I'll definitely apply to more DO schools. I don't know how I will get a quick LOR from a DO to be honest. My MDs took FOREVER to write theirs, I also haven't shadowed a DO so LOR would be hard to squeeze in out of nowhere. I think I already talked to ACOM admissions and they don't consider my science professor for research a science professor :/ which sucks. unless they changed their policy. I'll do more research once I get off work!

If anyone has any nice recommendations for schools, let me know!
I have 2 MD LOR
1 Social Science (language) professor LOR
2 Science LOR
The 122 on CARS is what is going to kill me.

If you have another professor you can ask, that may work. It has to be class professors, me thinks. You won’t be able to swing a DO letter in two weeks. Skip schools that require DO. Hope for the best. Remember, it’s a marathon. Worst case, your app gets better for next cycle, you shadow a DO, you get more clinical hours and and you rock it. Power of positivity.

One. There's no way of knowing this.

To. The Thanksgiving rule is more in line for MD schools. The do cycle is longer. You may get an interview invite tomorrow or in April.

3. You should always be working on improving your app because you are 100% rejected until you finally get that accept email in your inbox.

Would you advise applying to more DO schools today also? You are a very good resource and I take your word over most! No offense to anyone else.

Update: I applied to 5 more schools! I think I have 14 in total now... pray pray pray

I got into KCU last year and saw from that thread and was told by current students that there is often a lot of waitlist movement come traffic day in the spring. Don't give up! Maybe send an LOI in a few months if you have any notable updates. Keep us posted!
