I have two semesters of research but it's in nuclear engineering and not related at all to medicine.

Other than that, I'm blank.

However, I'm done with college and am effectively taking a gap year. So I'm planning on volunteering full time and maybe try for a medical technician job.

I want to get two solid areas of volunteering and maybe possibly get someone I could shadow. Other than that, what should I be doing to boost my EC field?

Get as much clinical volunteering as you can--hospital, hospice, nursing home, etc. Do non-clinical volunteering within the community as well, such as food drives, soup kitchens, homeless shelters... Maybe you could tutor some underprivileged kids? It's good to have some teaching experience on your app. Would it be possible for you to take a medical mission trip to a foreign country? Also, it doesn't matter that your research wasn't medically related. I think research in nuclear engineering is awesome and unique. And yes, you need some shadowing under your belt, too.

You should be aware, though, that squishing all of this into only one year won't look very good.

+1 Perfect answer!

The only thing I would add it to do a random hobby or activity that you find interesting and is perferably very unique. I vaguely remember someone on here talking about spear-fishing. That is going to catch some attention!
