I can't believe I started filling out AMCAS almost 1 year ago(Mayish). Such hopes and dreams!

Since then, there have been shocks, upsets, a few nice surprises, and one acceptance that I can say that I am very fortunate/happy to get.

I feel like I am describing the world cup or something. Anyway, I am one of those who put to much of my time/energy/and self into this process, and in a sick sick way--im gonna miss it? lol

How would you have changed things if you could start over? Appply to more? Apply to less?

I didn't realize I was/am such a typical neurotic pre-meder. I still remember posting on SDN during my sophomore year..."What were you stats??!"

how i would have changed things:
1) actually study for the april mcat so i didn't have to retake in august
2) apply to a heck of a lot less schools (so much $$... gone)
3) warn my family/friends/mailman i'd be getting insane
4) found SDN earlier/made the transition from lurker sooner ;-P

1) waited a year to apply
2) quit my job and moved to another state
3) not applied to the schools I decided not to fill the secondaries for
4) never have become quite so addicted to this site

I would DEFINITELY apply to less schools if I could start over-too many secondaries to fill out, too much money spent.

nice thread idea!

i would :
think harder abt where to apply, really visualizing how i would feel and what i would do if a certain school was the *only* one i got into.

maybe have waited to try to pull my grades up.

maybe take an MCAT class.

learn how to get to interviews on time!! it seems like i am *always* running late.

lose weight. . . **edited for sarahkerr 🙂 **. . . well, i'm still working on this last one anyway. . .

1)I would have found SDN earlier.
2)I would have not grossly overestimated my chances of getting into certain schools.
3)I would have applied to more schools and earlier
4)I would have filled out all the secondarys I received after AMCAS, rather than not sending them in b/c, it was a waste of money to apply to schools I know I can get into.
5)I wouldnt be a tool that blew it and has to go through this BS again next year.

How much is too many? I don't see numbers... eh

My advisor thinks 11 is good enough for me. I think more like 30. Did you guys apply to more than 22?

I applied to 20 schools initially. Did 17 secondaries. Was invited to 13 interviews. Only went to eight of them...withdrew from five of them. I should definitely have been more confident in my application and stats and not have even bothered with schools I knew I probably wouldn't go to (i.e. schools in Los Angeles and New York City).

25+ apps, 13 interviews, 1 acceptance (so far), a TON of REJECTIONS

I would have applied to more schools in NYC like NYU, and Columbia. It would have been nice to maybe get an interview and see the city.

-Applied to about 12 instead of 20 schools....

-Written a more detailed & technical MSTP essay..

-Taken the MCAT in April instead of the August after my sophomore year

-Started research the summer before my sophomore year

-Had more fun in college!!!! (Im making up for it this semester though) 😛

Yes...because wearing a size 6 is tragic.

Yeah, I should have applied to half as many and steered clear of the Ivy League. They were too damn snobby to look past my shabby exterior to see that I am pure gold on the inside. 😉

I never thought I would become so defensive of my undergrad choice. I would choose my po-dunk college again if I had the choice between them and one of the seven sisters. . .

DIDO....i would pick my undergrad school again in a heart beat. At UCLA, as every other applicant was rambling..."Yale, Duke, Stanford, Harvard..." I had to explain that i went to a small Jesuit school...and no I'm not catholic.

I would:
1. Do more research on what schools have the fine print saying...if you are not from this state, don't bother.
2. Apply to at least 2 schools in the mid-west instead of staying on the coasts.
3. Set up a spycam on my mail box, so i know exactly when the mail comes.😀
