Hi,

I am currently a senior at a university and I am majoring in Biochemistry class. My GPA is bad now and I need easy classes to boost up my GPA. My schedule this quarter is Intro to Phil 100 and Earth Science 100 and one physics class for pre-pharm prered? Does 100 Level look bad on my transcript even though I get 4.0 for both 100 level classes?

Thank you

I would say it will be judged for what it is. I would see a broad experience (Philosophy and Earth Science aren't pre-reqs). However, you also didn't challenge yourself with these courses. You could have taken advanced Biochem classes or extra classes that would have benefited you later such as Genetics or Med Chem if you haven't already had them. Your Pre-req GPA and Science GPA are the ones that are the most important. Sometimes these are more important than your overall GPA. I would say they cant hurt, but they wouldn't benefit you as much as good grades in advanced science courses would have.

Adcoms know how to calculate interim GPA's and will know you chose easy classes to pad your GPA. Wouldn't be worse than not taking anything though.

I think you would be better off putting the time into your major/science/prereq classes. I usually took 5 or 6 classes with 3 or 4 being science. I almost always got B's in the "easy" classes because I was making sure I had A's in things like organic or PChem. Not a minute was spent other than showing up. Every admissions person I have talked to would rather see the B in the BS/gen ed course than the tough course because they know you are prioritizing. Would you rather your doctor/dentist/pharmacist have a 3.5 overall, but with a 2.7 or 3.7 science GPA?
