Hey guys, I'm from Ontario and will be starting medical school at UQ in the January 2014 intake. Would love to get in contact with any other Canadians or Americans who are also starting this year, or who are already enrolled and looking for another housemate. I'd like to ideally get an apartment/house with some other med students, and so it would be nice to try and coordinate things beforehand! Send me a PM and we can chat.

Which campus?

Brown University is my alma mater. Starting at UQ in St Lucia next year.

No. St. Lucia is better than Ipswich. I go out to Ipswich once per week because I'm the cohort's USMLE tutor. Although Ipswich is tranquil, if you want to do anything apart from study med and milk cows on a farm for the time you're in Australia, then choose St. Lucia. The St. Lucia campus is massive, and there's lots to do in Brisbane.

Much smaller cohort size, much easier to get around, and PBLs and clinical sessions are all on campus, whereas St Lucia's are all at the RBWH or PA, which is time and energy consuming, as well as costly. St Lucia lectures are in a massive auditorium that reeks of piss and **** whereas Ipswich's are in brand new regular sized rooms where you can actually see the lecturers face and ask questions during the lecture. It's also much easier to secure affordable and more sizable living in Ipswich--unless you're comfortable sharing a place and bathroom with others and spending a lot of money for it, then St. Lucia is fine. Also, the areas surrounding St. Lucia are pretty crummy and expensive on top of it.

Keep in mind you'll be spending most of your week studying so you want to minimize unnecessarily quantities, of which you be faced with nonstop at St Lucia (a logistical nightmare). You can easily take the train into the city on the weekends so you won't be missing out on anything.

Goes to show even Ivy League people go abroad for med school. Btw, were you legacy, affirmative action or athelete?
