Why not try everything you can. Send extra LOR's, email them with updates (ie-grades/shadowing/volunteering....anything) and indicate why you really want to go every other week or so. Try to get your dean/professors to send emails on your behalf. Squeaky wheel gets the oil. GL
 
Try crying on the phone with them.
 
Make a not-so-anonymous, pricey donation if you have the means.
