Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation is pleased to offer researchinternship opportunities once again this summer for undergraduate premedstudents and those studying other health care disciplines in an accrediteddegree program. Internships are designed to give students professionalexperience in the areas of clinical research and cardiovascular healthcare. Interns are integrated into a researcharea and assigned to work on a clinical research project. They will also havethe chance to watch cardiovascular surgery and cath lab procedures, shadownurse practitioners, and observe stress testing and CT/MRIs, among otherthings.
Feedback from a previous intern: There is nobetter place where you can get a holistic view of healthcare while having theresponsibility to work on your own research project. It is the perfectopportunity for interactive learning, critical thinking, and relationshipbuilding. There is nothing more awesome than getting to be a part of astate-of-the-art, cutting-edge research facility while learning the ins andouts of the healthcare team. The physicians have high expectations of theinterns, but they never leave you with a project that you cannot handle. If youwant to work hard and learn a lot, this program is for you.
Internships will be full-time, 10-12 weeks in duration, and offer a modeststipend of $8 per hour and paid parking. All internships will take place on thecampus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis,Minnesota. Out-of-state participants in previous years were able to subletapartments near the University of Minnesota and reported the short-termrelocation as being very worthwhile. We regard diversity in the internshipprogram as an important factor in providing a rich learning environment forparticipants.
