It's not good if you use a grad student letter as a letter from a faculty member. Make sure you get professors for those letters.
 
I used a grad student who was the sole teacher of one of my classes as a faculty letter. I wasn't close to any other non-science professors as all of my classes were large, and she was able to write a nice, personal recommendation for me. I've been accepted and have had 8 IIs so I don't believe that it's a huge red flag or anything.
 
I know the answer to this is usually no, but my volunteer coordinator is a grad student and I've been volunteering there for over a year now a lot. Is it okay if he writes a recommendation letter for my medical school application?

It is perfectly fine. They are writing the letter as the volunteer coordinator. They just happen to be a graduate student.

The issue with graduate students writing LOR is typically there is someone else who SHOULD be writing the letter (faculty) and the problem is, "Why isn't this letter coming from faculty?" This does not apply here.
