Hi, guys! I've been accepted to both the USF 100% Health Science Online Masters and the Barry Masters Program in Biomedical Sciences and I'm having a hard time deciding which route to go.

I'm in a very serious relationship right now and my boyfriend accepted a job offer in San Diego. My original plan was to complete the online masters while living with him in San Diego. That way, I can get try to apply for instate residency in order to better my chances for the Cali dental schools. My #1 choice is UoP but since it's a private school, they said that while they accept online master courses, my being an instate resident wouldn't increase my chances of getting in. But by living with my boyfriend, rent and living expenses would be drastically lower compared to what I'd have to pay if I were to live in Florida (If I go to Barry, I'd look for roommates but in terms of groceries and other necessary expenses, living with my boyfriend would make things easier for the both of us).

On the other hand, the Barry Master program is said to prepare pre-dental students for dental school and their curriculum is very similar to what first year dental students go through. And because I want to be an orthodontist in the future, I feel like that might help since I'd have to do very well in DS. I also know that most professional schools prefer traditional classes over online ones so if you could give me your input, I'd greatly appreciate it!

If you are currently attending either of these programs, I'd love to hear about your experiences there!

Thank you~~
First off, congratulations on your acceptances! You're only a few steps away from reaching your goal. I know a few people that were in the same situation as yours and I can honestly tell you that you will have to make some sacrifices. Let's face it, we all have sources to loans/financial aid and we all will have a hefty debt after dental school-- so forget about the expenses for now. What's more important is your learning experience and to improve whatever it is (whether its DAT/GPA) in order to be where you want, ultimately dental school.

I am close to done with my Masters at Barry and I can tell you from experience that you will get a valued education and learning experience coming to class vs. taking an online course. I came into the Barry program when everything was in transition (with new staff and a director). Believe me when I say the faculty members and students are there to help you to succeed. But remember, you will have to put in the WORK. All the students I knew that started the Barry program in Fall 2013 who are in or have been accepted into dental/medical school. And the courses that my friends are taking in dental/medical schools are VERY similar to Barry and was able to breeze through their first year (with a 4.0). So, I do prefer traditional classes over online classes just because the access to help, the professors knows you one on one (which is a HUGE plus for getting a LOR), and overall experience with your peers (they are there to help you). I hope I answered your questions. Let me know if you have any others.
