Yes. Not gonna make you or break you like step 1, but it does have some weight.

Yes. The reputation of a school has an effect. This is obvious. Also, exercise is good and smoking is bad.

Application resources don't have much, if anything, to do with school ranking. Students at top medical schools don't match at top residency programs because their school has some super secret resource that state school X doesn't have.

Lastly, it's competitive. Not 'competetive'.

Thanks for the responses. @colbgw02 I didn't mean application resources. I meant funding to pursue research and international experiences which some state schools can't provide internally. Also I wrote my original post on my phone. Typos will occur.

Rankings, particularly USN&WR, tend to value research highly. So, yes, on average, higher ranked schools will provide more and better research opportunities. However, you should not conclude that other schools are lacking in research opportunities. You, the individual, are by a large margin the most important variable in research possibilites. In other words, a student at Best Medical School Ever won't necessarily fall backward into great research, while an aggressive student at State School X might find worthwhile research to be plentiful.

I have found international experiences to be highly variable in both availability and usefulness with respect to residency. If you want a memorable experience, then, by all means, spend a summer in South America, for example. But you shouldn't believe that such an experience will appreciably contribute to your neurosurgery application.
