Professors have been receptive to me (and friends anecdotally) rescheduling exams because of illness or other unforeseen circumstance. Never heard of someone getting a retake. May just be me, but I feel if you have the poor judgment to take the exam without talking to your professor/getting a doctor's note, you deserve the grade you get.

Agreed with above poster. Just ask about it--it can't hurt, but could really significantly help.
I've heard of profs using averages of past/all exam scores.

Would you recommend waiting to speaking to the professor on Monday or email now? Day of exam

How do I word it? I don't want to straight up ask for a retake. Should I just give me the situation and see if he offers anything?

You should've spoken to him before the exam, or at the very least right after it. Be honest about the situation and explain yourself. Ask if there's anything you can do.

I've only had 1 exam retake and that was back in middle school. Unfortunately you should have delayed your exam if you were sick (you had gone to the doctor). Professors are unlikely to give a retake because that would certainly mean having to write another exam version for you - highly unlikely. Use this as a learning experience on how to use discernment next time you find yourself in a similar situation. Sucks but such is life
