hurt chances for what? getting loans? your parents info will only be used to determine if you qualify for need based loans if your school offers one. For your federal loans, you are considered independent.

Ahhh thank you for the response! That helps me out. 🙂

Also, do you guys know how you are going to afford living when school is not in session? I'm guessing the loans will only cover the 9 months we are in school. So what do you guys plan on doing in terms of money/financing your living situation? Gonna try to find a summer job? Lease your apartment and go back home?

Thanks for the help !
I never actually thought about that! Your school has a different schedule than mine, as I think my summer is much shorter than yours. In my case, I'll probably live a little more frugally and save up money to finance my summer. Otherwise, maybe a combination of Airbnb/subletting and/or tutoring/nannying/generic summer job 🙂

So I understand that some dental schools (mine included) require our Parents Tax documents in order to determine our funding. However, my dad doesn't want to submit his tax form because he thinks it will hurt my chances.

Is it necessary to send in both parents' tax documents? What happens if I don't? How do I convince him that it's absolutely necessary... He's so stubborn...

Yes, if your school requires parent information for the purposes of applying for needs-based funding then you will have to submit information for both of your parents. Most schools will not consider parent refusal to provide information as a reason for waiving this requirement. If your father does not want to give you his info, then you can receive Federal Direct Loans only.
