I have the luxury of 3 months to study for the DAT so I thought I would share my study schedule with you guys! I used the Kaplan DAT review to guide me. I only focus on math, reading, and PAT about once a week because I personally don't have much trouble with it so feel free to shuffle around subjects that you are comfortable with. Here's a super quick rundown of what it is:
Monday: Bio, chem, chem, bio
Tuesday: Bio, chem, chem, bio
Wednesday: Bio, orgo, orgo, bio
Thursday: Bio, orgo, orgo PAT
Friday: Bio, orgo, PAT, reading Comp
Saturday: Bio, chem, orgo, math
Week 2: Bio: Embryology, circulatory systems and immunology, endocrinology. GChem: Compounds and stoichometry, kinetics and equilibrium. Orgo: Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic compounds. Math: Algebra. PAT: Top-Front-End.
Monday: Chem, bio, bio, chem
Tuesday: Chem, orgo, orgo, chem
Wednesday: Bio, orgo, orgo, bio
Thursday: Chem, bio, bio, PAT
Friday: Math, orgo, PAT, reading comp
Saturday: Math, bio, orgo, PAT
Week 3: Bio: Nervous system, respiration, muscles and locomotion. GChem: Thermochemistry, the gas phase. Orgo: Alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids. Math: Plane geometry. PAT: Angle ranking.
Monday: Bio, orgo, chem, bio
Tuesday: Pat, orgo, chem, bio
Wednesday: Reading comp, orgo, chem, orgo
Thursday: Math, orgo, bio, chem
Friday: Quant, orgo, bio, chem
Saturday: *For those with access to practice exams take it today and review ALL the answers*
Week 4: Bio: Digestion, excretion. GChem: Phases and phase changes, properties of solutions. Orgo: Amines, nitrogen containing compounds. Math: Solid geometry. PAT: Hole punching.
Monday: Orgo, orgo, PAT, bio
Tuesday: Reading comp, orgo, chem, bio
Wednesday: Chem, math, bio, chem
Thursday: Chem, math, bio, orgo
Friday: Chem, math, bio, orgo
Saturday: Math, bio, orgo, PAT
*At this point I recycle the weeks I used for the final 2 weeks to look at the material and then you can pick and choose what weeks you prefer to utilize depending on your own preference for the 6 week power review.*
Week 5 *use WEEK 2*: Bio: Animal behavior, ecology. GChem: Acids, bases, redox reactions, electrochemistry. Orgo: Purification/separation techniques, spectroscopy. Math: Coordinate geometry. PAT: Cube counting.
Week 6 *use WEEK 3*: Bio: Classification, evolution. GChem: Nuclear decay. Orgo: Carbohydrates, amino acids, PI values. Math: Trigonometry. PAT: Pattern folding.
*Personally I chose to take a practice exam every 3 weeks up until week 9 of studying and then opted to take one every week since then just because of the power review that I would be doing and to see how my scores improve*
So far my Biology has went up 3 points, my GChem and Orgo have went up by 2, Math went up by 3, and reading went up by 2. I am, as of this posting, starting week 7 so my power review begins today! Good luck to everyone taking the DAT and please let me know if you found this study schedule helpful at all.
Also use DAT Bootcamp, the ADA 2007 DAT, and the DAT Question of the Day,
- 8 hours a day. The 8 hours are broken up into four 2-hour blocks for each subject of that day (Don't worry this value fluctuates on how well you know the material for that day)
- 6 days a week (Pick a day off to relax and/or use it as a reserve day to finish what you couldn't complete during the week)
- The first 5-6 weeks are to read all the material that will be on the exam and the 6-7 weeks left will be to just do a power review of all your weaknesses and strengths!
- How it will look WEEK #: TOPICS FROM EACH SUBJECT TO BE STUDIED THAT DAY
- DAY: SUBJECT 1, SUBJECT 2, SUBJECT 3, SUBJECT 4.
