40 hours dental shadowing but currently doing more.
Volunteer hours for community, hospitals and dental clinics.
DAT practices at around 20.
I need an opinion or two.

Depends on how much extra money you have. You could possibly have a chance if you score 20+ on the DAT!

What was your gpa from your postbacc?

Is that gpa averaged undergrad and Postbacc gpa?

Excellent post-back GPA. Yes, you can make it. You just need to apply early and do well on the DAT. I would’ve advised you to have applied in the beginning of June.

I agree and that was the plan however, I was not reaching the averages I wanted on my DAT practice exams. I'm now taking it July 14th and my scores vary from 20-22. Feeling much more confident.

The rest of my app is submitted, completed and verified with LORs and everything so just need this DAT score.

This might be obvious, but make sure the schools you apply to would accept that GPA. Some have minimum cutoffs at 3.0 (for both sci & cum), so don't waste your money applying to those. Also spend lots and lots of time writing an absolutely amazing PS, might make the difference.

You’re not out of the game. Consider doing an SMP, even for a year, and kill it in that...to boost your academic profile

OP already applied this year. imo chances not great without a strong Dat. Not enough shadowing either even if all stats were great.

SMP’s a backup plan should things go awry but I agree. A broad net needs to be casted too :greedy:. Wishing the best for OP!

It's an uphill battle if we're being honest. Anything is possible though.

How many credits post-bacc do you have? Don’t listen to everyone mocking you and telling you to go to Podiatry and Optometry (both are great professions and don’t see why to belittle them as if failures go that route). If I listened to everyone telling me that dentistry is not for me and not to reapply, I wouldn’t be in dental school now. You’ll inspire many others after you get in or you will cause bitterness. I’ve had some around me ramp up and retry their luck and others who quit talking to me and became nasty in attitude.

Either way, it is your journey. Don’t give up and best of luck! PM me if you have any questions.

Is this the greatest strawman of all time or just in the top 5?

OP would have to take the MCAT and OAT.

I’m not sure of your dental chances. Your chances for Podiatry are fine at bigger schools if you manage to score a decent MCAT (490+).
The good thing is that oat is 90% the same test, and as you state, the MCAT threshold is pretty modest for dpm. Both accept many sub 3 gpas and are cool jobs, though optometry has a big time job market problem going forward.
