Was wondering if anyone had any information on these programs and could comment on pros/cons, strengths, hours worked, etc. Really interested in these two programs specifically.

I interviewed at Louisville. Solid program, solid facilities. Really liked the PD, although he is young and hasn't been there long. I know people training there, definitely a little bit of a "work horse" type program. I had it ranked in my top 5, but it was further north than I wanted to be.

I never heard back from MUSC. I met numerous MUSC applicants on the trail and none of them wanted to stay home. No idea why. There always seems to be a jump in the anesthesia world. A mid tier school like MUSC will send their gas students to higher tier. Same at my current program - very big name, but not ranked highly. Last years 4th years are training at places like Stanford, Vandy and Duke.

I did an away at MUSC and absolutely loved it there.. the residents were great, attendings were often teaching in the OR . I felt it was an all around strong program. I ended up ranking a few programs higher, but would have been very happy there.

If you don’t have a west coast bias, Charleston is a fantastic (though expensive) place to live. MUSC has a good, under the radar rep for the south/borderline mid-Atlantic.

Interviewed at Charleston. MUSC is a hidden gem really. Just expensive to live there is all. But it seems like an awesome, well rounded program.

MUSC residency is strong. Allows for a good amount of autonomy, diverse cases, fair hours worked, and good work environment. Peds hearts are done by CRNAs but everything else the residents have dibs on bigger cases. Charleston is an awesome city as well.
