I was a 1st chair in a state competition for 10th-12th graders as a 9th grade(I received permission to compete), won regional competitions every year, and at a young age played with a symphony orchestra as a soloist before college.

In college, I have been playing in the college symphony orchestra as 1st chair for four years, but there hasn't been any competitions or awards that I could win or participate in... but for AMCAS, I am torn on writing only that I was 1st chair in orchestra in college. Friends are suggesting that I should write about those achievements from high school since in AMCAS I should promote myself. Is this a bad idea?

Similarly, if you were talented in art and was commissioned many times as a high schooler, are those things not worth mentioning?
Since you've continued to engage in your music during the college years, it's fine to include the high school performance history as well (and even before that). If you want to mention the recognitions, I suggest that you do so in the same space (rather than in a separate Awards/Honors space).

A typical "space" on AMCAS gives you 700 characters for description. If you designate your Artistic Endeavors as one of your three Most Meaningful activities, you get another 1325 characters for your essay.
