I believe @Goro commonly says that these letters do have an effect if you already have an acceptance to a more prestigious/well-known school.

Given the new traffic rules, schools won't know where you have acceptances any more. I was more curious as to the effect on the probability of receiving a merit scholarship. I would assume that it would reduce this probability but wanted to get more views and see if anyone had any experiences.

Could always forward them the accept letter.
 
Since we don't believe these anyway, I'm going to say it has little influence.
On the other hand, at a school with finite resources, there is no reason to give a recruitment scholarship to someone who can only attend one school (think early decision).
 
i have this same question for a merit scholarship that's offered at my number one choice!
