Not something to really worry about at this point and if you are going to worry about it, worry about it after you have multiple acceptances. In general, more prestigious schools will have more prestigious faculty, and if you go to a school without prestigious faculty and apply into a specialty that requires big name letters, you can do away rotations.

Have you been accepted yet?
To neither, but I still have to rank them for match. I do have to put one before the other regardless of whether I am accepted.

Who cares? In Texas for prestige its Baylor/UTSW >other MD schools. If its not one of the first two I'm not sure "faculty prestige" (whatever that means) really should even be considered.

@AnatomyGrey12 I was also not sure what it meant, but people posted about it when I asked how to decide how to rank schools and I've seen plenty of SDNer mention it on other threads choosing between similar schools.

@Goro You're a very knowledgeable advisor and you know that is not helpful for people relying on match. Ranking is explicitly done before getting accepted. I'll be happy to get in anywhere, but trying to set myself up for a good residency (especially since I didn't set myself up well for medical school) seems like a pretty reasonable thing to do.

Unless you're in a particular field you won't know who is a big name in their field and it has nothing to do with the school. Some no name school can have very influential faculty and some high end schools will have faculty that's not well known. Ultimately, ranking a school based on faculty prestige is really dumb. Rank based on where you want to go or tuition or something else that's tangible. Choosing a school based on faculty is idiotic since they can move by the time you need their help.

I'm understanding that faculty isn't a great way to rank. I was just following up on advice given to me here. Closing this.
