A Master's thesis is appreciated as a quality mentored publication, but a MA tends to be just courses. Challenging yourself with higher level courses (beyond pre-reqs) is examined by the AdComm whether you earned the MA or just BA. However, there is no replacement for immersive laboratory research experience for a substantial amount of time that leads to making contributions to a project (presented as first author poster presentations at national conferences). We want future PIs, not research technicians (3 times the same research year without growth). Volunteering is nice but might take away from research (substance for MD/PhD applicant). Based on your last statement of EC, you are fine, no need for more. More research is more valuable than adding to ECs... BA/MA is ok and in most cases seen better than just BA. Make sure that you represent the math of research hours well, don't over but don't under. If you worked 20 hours per week, count it as such, not 10. If in the summer, you did 80 rather than 60 or 40 count it as such, but the LORs should reflect that...
