i only ever received an e-card from my grandma once when my then 12-year-old cousin helped her do it...

its vaguely endearing. but if your goal is to be a professional you want people to care about your words only

Yeah, back in my day, which wasn't the 90s, I sent handwritten and personalized cards to every interviewer and LOR writer, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. If I got one now, I'd be thrilled. Not sure how much it would effect anything, but you never know.

Well, I should say that my cards did come up again in a positive way, after acceptance. Not sure it affected the decision in any way, but was sort of a way to begin a connection at a new school.

Although, reflecting on all of this, I think it kinda depends on you. Do you seem like the type to send a thank you note? Do you seem sincere? Are you the type, and are you sincere? Do the cards represent you in a positive way?

I can tell you it's my style, and maybe that mattered. Now I'm thinking the only way I wouldn't appreciate a card was if the person seemed like a kiss ass, the card was tacky or insincere. So YMMV. Do it if it feels right and don't be dumb about it? I think that's the key to social interaction in general. So whatever you do, try not to mess it up, lol.

I gave hand written thank you cards to my letter writers because i knew them all really well and had personal experiences i could mention in them that made them meaningful. Didn't feel like me to send to my interviewers since I barely knew them and to me just would've felt fake. I sent one to one of my interviewers mainly because they were very open with me and gave me some life advice that i appreciated but that was the only one. Otherwise like you said it would've been more of me being a kiss up rather than being genuine. I always found it a bit strange when people would raise their hands at an interview and ask "what is your policy on thank you notes" or "should we send thank you notes" .... To me if they don't out right say don't send one and you want to send them then do it. But asking about it just makes it seem fake. What's the point of a thank you note if you have to ask if you should send one. A better question would've been "is it okay to contact our interviewers after today" since i know some schools dont allow it.
