Hi, I'm wondering how good financial aid (specifically need based grants) is at Tufts Med. As it is one of the most expensive medical schools in the nation, I am very hesitant about whether I should enroll. I am relatively lower middle income and was accepted to the early assurance program there as a college sophomore at Tufts last year. Right now, I need to determine whether I should enroll in the fall (or apply elsewhere and forfeit my acceptance), but financial aid is not released until next spring after I enroll and I do not want to take out 360k of loans across 4 years. I have not taken the MCAT but will do so in the winter if I do decide to forfeit and take a gap year.

Based on past threads, I've heard that financial aid is not very generous and that they give out mostly loans. However, I've also heard that they give out need based grants that cover from 1/4 up to full tuition. How common are these given out? Is there an income cap on how much need based grants you can receive? If my family income is in the 70-80k range with typical assets, do I have a chance to receive a need based grant? Hope someone who has experience can provide more information, thanks!

You have a guaranteed acceptance to medical school. I'd run with it. You'll be able to get loans.

My need based aid package was 1/2 COA with my parents income typically being between 40-50k. I would talk to the financial aid office and see if they can give you any estimates or additional info!

Definitely speak with the financial aid office
