Wait, just bc you are at an advantage experientially does not mean you aren’t disadvantaged financially. You should definitely ask an advisor about this.
 
Schools will see your family income and your qualifying for FAP. They will also see your mom's doctorate degree. Presumably due to your mom's illness and medical bills, you might also talk about the struggles that your family has endured and the insights that you've gained from being in this situation. Just state the facts and let schools make their own determination.
