Nobody will care. My year as a research coordinator was specifically in interventional gastroenterology and nobody brought up anything about me now being destined for that specialty or anything. If you're working with patients and getting research exposure it's a good gap year
 
Adcoms realize that people often switch their area of interest after entering medical school. That this job is not in your current area of interest will not negatively affect your chances of getting into medical school. As long as you are getting good medically related experience, you will be fine.
