Hello! I submitted nearly all of my secondaries mid-July, have a 517 mcat and 3.9 gpa, currently in a gap year doing clinical research, but I am still waiting to hear back from any schools about interviews. I know it is early, but I am only a bit worried given how early I applied. I did research in undergrad for two years, tutored students in chemistry for nearly two years, had paid clinical employment, led a student government org for 2 years, volunteered in my local hospital for 2.5 years, shadowed, and had ongoing non-clinical volunteering over the summers for 2 years but had few hours from it given the short time frame over the summer (teaching children from underserved areas how to prioritize exercise and nutrition). Is my lack of interviews indicative that there might be a red flag in my app? I am a bit worried that I am lacking in non-clinical volunteering, and I am suspecting this could be why I have had no news. Any help is appreciated!
I think it's time to take a chill pill bud

Critique:

Utah (not sure if they give preference to Coloradoers) Wayne state, Baylor, Arizona are all instate biased

Georgetown, Boston, temple, tufts, Tulane, Jefferson, temple are all high yield (meaning they get many many applications)

Don’t worry you’ll definitely get IIs but if possible maybe you could add some more schools. Also how early is early?

Patience is a virtue, the need for instant gratification is not.

Schools stratify the apps as they come in and don't send out secondaries or IIs merely in chronological order.

Secondaries are often a tax on the hopelessly naïve, if not pathologically optimistic.

Not directed at you, OP, but SDNers are advised to not to have the mindset of “I sent in my apps; where are my IIs???!!!”

Which schools would you recommend adding? I was hesitant to add them after an advisor told me a previous list was too top heavy
Look up the US news top 30, add 10 private schools that interest you (also umich/UVA).

@Goro - care to clarify this?

Secondaries are often a tax on the hopelessly naïve, if not pathologically optimistic.

I’ve seen you posting that a lot but never truly understood the meaning.
He means many people are applying who really shouldn’t be and they are just wasting their money.

He has said it a few times to people it didn’t really make sense to in context, but I just think that is because he has it as a canned comment “copypasta”

That’s what I figured 🙂

He means that just because you got a secondary, doesn't mean you are anywhere close to an II. Secondaries are often sent to all applicants to a school, regardless of how competitive the school perceives them to be.
He's saying that if you think you should get an II bc you completed a secondary ( not OP specifically) then you are " Hopelessly naive, or pathologically optimistic".

Tulane, rush, loyola
To add to the above, these three schools are known for their emphasis on community service. Your school list looks decent otherwise so I'm sure you'll hear back eventually.

Wayne state...instate biased
Wayne State is actually one of the few public/state schools that's pretty OOS friendly. They interview almost an equal amount of IS/OOS and matriculate a nearly 2:1 ratio of IS:OOS.

My stats are similar to yours. You'll be fine. Its only September 1.
