If youre asking about LORs for residency, you dont use preclinical LORs.

And it probably isn’t too late.. ask around and see if anyome has a project they’d like you to assist on.

Hi friends,

I was just thinking about this. I have about one close mentor that I shadow who could give me a good recommendation in the future. However, overall I don't always attend class (sometimes I watch the video instead) and when I do I hardly go ask professors questions in person. I am also sometimes late to class by a few minutes when I do attend (although I am on time for professional meetings/events). I'm in my second year and I'm not sure if being slightly late to class is considered "unprofessional" and if it would hurt me in the future (should I skip all-together if I'm going to be a few minutes late?) Additionally, I don't know if I should try to be more interactive with professors and try to ask them questions in person to build relationships for the future, or if it even matters at this stage. I have emailed professors questions but I tend to avoid going to ask questions in person, and I don't ask questions in class because I don't want to accidentally ask a dumb question in front of the entire class. So my question is, am I behind on building relationships with professors, and if so (or even if not) what can I do to fix this or to start building more relationships for future recommendations?

Bonus: Am I too late to start doing research? I did undergrad research and loved it, but I haven't done anything since. I'm not sure if I'm too late to start as an M2 who has already begun the semester.

Thanks!

Another great way to get to know faculty is by joining student organizations that they are often advisors for. Also by taking on leadership roles in the organizations.

If you find someone with research you want to be apart of go for it. More power to ya.

Other than that the relationship with your preclinical faculty means nothing.

You use clinical faculty, not preclinical for LORs. That being said, it’s never too early to start making connections and meeting faculty in your department of interest.
