IMHOI have an acceptance at RowanSOM and have interviewed at KCU. I still have interviews at DMU and CUSOM, but I'm still waiting to hear back from PCOM and NYIT. Just wanted to get an idea of which school out of these 6 is the best in terms of matching students into more competitive specialities?
PCOM (the PA campus specifically) would keep more doors open for you because they've sponsored so many residency and fellowship programs already, even competitive ones (GS, Derm, Ortho, cardiovascular diseases, vascular surgery ect...) and these are home programs open to their graduates. Plus, they're very established (original 5 DO schools), their board scores are solid, their match list are consistently solid. DMU and KCU come closely after, also 2 original 5 DO schools. CUSOM is not as established (Est. 2011), but is also doing a good job sponsoring residency programs in NC as well. Rowan and NYIT are good schools, but not doing as good of a job as the other ones, plus the cost of living in NJ and NY is super high. Well that was my subjective opinion so...Any specific reason(s) for why you put PCOM first? Just curious, thanks!
You're welcomeI appreciate the extremely comprehensive response, thank you so much.
Rowan with IS tuition is easily better than any of those other schools.Hi, I just wanted some feedback on some of the schools I'm currently considering, trying to narrow it down in terms of which ones I should consider interviewing at if I receive an interview or consider attending if accepted. I would love to hear what school you would choose and why? Also, I would like to know which school would put me in the best position in terms of outstanding clinical rotations, board scores (COMLEX/USMLE) and give me the best chance at matching into a competitive specialty during residency. If possible, how would you rank these schools based on the above-listed factors and any other factors you feel are important? Everyone, please feel free to provide your thoughts. The schools are as follows:
1) RowanSOM
- Pros: Research-oriented, IS tuition, clinical rotations in NJ, teaching hospital, good match list, and an established program.2) KCU-COM
- Pros: Great facilities, OMM isn't forced down your throat, an established program, and a great match list.3) DMU-COM
- Pros: Great preparation for boards, great match list, tuition, and an established program.4) NYITCOM-Old Westbury
- Pros: Good match list, close to home, rotation sites across NY/NJ, and non-mandatory classes.
5) PCOM-PHI
- Pros: Great match list, close to home, established program, and strong clinical rotations.
6) CUSOM
- Pros: Nice facilities, board scores, and research opportunities.
Yo congrats. You got choices!! From lurking here DMU is the best one. I can’t comment on the others.
KCU KC for sure, but if you end up in the boonies KCU campus I’d pick PCOM hands downIMHO
KCU>=PCOM>DMU
Disclaimer: I'm a KCU first year

Lol good thing the rest of us don’t hate our trash curricula. I don’t know specifics so maybe it is problematic. If you get into PCOM then go to PCOM. PCOM has one of the most comprehensive sets of GME this side of MSU, and their competitive residencies heavily favor PCOM students. It's the only school I would have gone to over my current school (state school with lots of GME as well).
I've heard that Rowan has lots of problems with its curriculum.
They're ALL fine schools. The only catch to CUSOM is required lecture attendance, which I abhor. Rowan seems to have a bias for NJ residents.Hi, I just wanted some feedback on some of the schools I'm currently considering, trying to narrow it down in terms of which ones I should consider interviewing at if I receive an interview or consider attending if accepted. Rowan's instate first year tuition and fees total $49,492 and PCOM's are $52,722. At least in the first year Rowan is not a clear financial winner over PCOM. Tuition- Fees- and Financial AidRowan with IS tuition is easily better than any of those other schools.

The first year total at Rowan includes $8,153 in fees. The OP needs to find out if this is a one time gouge or if he or she will have to pay these outrageous fees every year.
I grabbed the figures off the AACOM website. Your figures are taken from the schools' websites. The schools' data might not be an apples to apples comparison. The tuition is clearly cheaper at Rowan but ancillary fees and health insurance at PCOM are clearly cheaper. I would still say that if the OP clearly prefers PCOM that it might be worth paying the extra money to go to PCOM. However, if the OP could live at home in New Jersey and if living at home would make life easier, then PCOM would have to be head and shoulders better to induce the OP to go to PCOM.![]()

Im seeing a 10k/year difference in tuition. Which I guess isn’t that much when it comes to med school. So maybe more personal preference between the two. I’d look into things like dedicated board prep time, curriculum, location preference, etc to split the difference.
