I'd be interested to know too what their philosophy is. I got into quite a few programs including a bunch that are more competitive, but what I got when I applied was a near immediate rejection by them. Was a bit scary since it was my first communication from any school and I actually love their campus and research and it was high on my list.
I've heard similar from other people. Speculation was that their admissions is a more "social justice" focus which didn't really fit my app, but not sure whether that's true or not
