You’re not that special. Don’t be so easily offended, if you want the interview, take it. If not, don’t.
The point of this post and what I’m trying to ask just seems to be going over all of your heads![]()
I never claimed to be special. All I’m saying is that it came off as uncaring/uninterested.
It’s like if you roll into a car dealership. The salesmen are trying to sell you a car and their brand, just like the dental schools are trying to sell you their school and perks. They should at-least be happy and welcoming to the customer/ student. It’s just common courtesy. Maryland didn’t show any courtesy imo and my point was, and let me capitalize this so it gets in your head;
IS THIS BC ITS POST DECEMBER, OR IS THIS HOW MARYLAND JUST ACTS??
Idk guys. Maybe I’m crazy, but if I’m signing up to pay someone hundreds of thousands of dollars, I’d like for them to at least act like they care. I wasn’t offended, it just came off as uncaring / diff. from all the other schools.

I'm pretty sure dental schools just send out a generic email template they've uploaded to the ADEA site sent to applicants they selected for an interview. In fact, of all my invites only about half included my name, other ones just read "Dear Applicant" or similar. Didn't even notice this until I checked right now because I had just taken the invite gratefully as an opportunity to interview at an institution I wanted to intend.
As for scheduling - it's my understanding that for most schools Post-December interviews typically tend to slow down a bit. There are less days and more variable scheduling due to the number of remaining spots they may have after the first round of acceptances. When you called, they probably just did not have defined future interview dates set in stone yet and thus asked you to call back at a later time when they did.
In any case, I'd say don't read into this minute process so deeply and gauge the school / vibe on the actual interview date with faculty and students, as those are the people you'll actually be interacting with on a daily basis.
The schools that have your name in the email also did this generically. There are mass emailing programs schools can use that will create a generic email and the computer can just input your name and other pertinent info in it automatically
Yeah I know. If that was the only thing then I wouldn't have thought anything of it. It was a combination of the generic email + no phone call + not letting me accept the interview date I was invited to that made me feel like this. It is what it is though.
Which school called you to give you an interview? I only know of Harvard calling students for interviews but they also interview very few. I'm just curious
Applying to dental school is a stressful time. You'll be in school soon and it'll be the best time of your life wherever you go
I don't want to say just bc I'm stressed about schools watching this stuff lmao. Honestly probs gonna ask a moderator to delete this whole thread by tomorrow for that same reason.
Give me till Dec. 2nd and I'll let you know! They weren't anything crazy like Harvard tho. It was 2 eastern schools and 1 southern. That's why when I didn't get anything from Maryland it was diff. / stood out to me!
