UoP for sure.

This isn't really a thing.

If living expenses hadn't been a factor for me, UoP would have been my #1 choice.
Thank you! I know a lot about UoP because my friends are graduating this year from there and they told me their perspectives. Although, I don’t know much about UW students. Why would you choose UoP over UW? Is it only for their clinical? Even with the living cost not being an issue it still comes down to $120 K difference minimum. And some people think that it is worth it to finish 1 year earlier but some people think it is not. What are your thoughts on that?

So UoP is 3 years but still costs 120k MORE than UW?
Yeah UOP is an insanely expensive private school but you do get the extra year.

I'd go to UOP. Everything I've heard about the school sounds amazing (except price). It's over twice the price of my state school.

I wanted to apply but my girlfriend wouldn't move to SF if I got in.

I know several UW students that were not particularly pleased with the level of the education that the school offers both didactic and clinical. Now it's hard to say since I haven't attended both schools, but I think you would come out of UOP more ready to be a dentist.

The cost increase of $120k is offset by working 1 year earlier. I haven't done the math but it has the potential to be less expensive by cutting this 4th year out since you have less time that your loans are growing from interest.

Just because its cheaper I believe it's a safer option. I guess it does get confusing with 1 year difference but the cost of living in San Francisco is insane. I know you said that wouldn't be an issue but that money could be put to other things. But like you calculated it'll be almost a 1.4k more expensive per month for 10 years. Thats a long time. It depends on you as well I guess and how you pay off your loans after you graduate, you could go with a more aggressive approach. If your willing to pay it off quicker than I guess that one year could be to your advantage with less interest being accrued. That 120k difference could theoretically be almost your starting salary as an associate dentist. 120,000 is a lot of money, thats two dual motor cyber trucks haha.

I firmly believe education is what you make of it to a high degree, don't pay extra for the same degree unless you have too.

Nonetheless, you have two great options. They are both great schools with great reputations. Paying my undergraduate loans sucked though so personally I would go cheaper.

May I ask why you voted for UW?
I agree with predent1mil to choose UW. If you have had to pay student loan debt you will avoid any extras as much as possible. It took me 5 years of aggressive payment to pay off $70k of graduate school. We make the mistake of thinking one year’s salary will offset the difference but that is far from the truth. Don’t forget you still have to live life. Instead of planning to payback 120k aggressively, I will Choose to practice more aggressively at the cheaper school to become a better dentist.
