Sixty percent of applicants are rejected. Unless you can get straight As and be maximally prepared for the MCAT while in school (not a sure thing given prior performance), I would favor taking the gap year, rounding out your ECs, and studying as hard as humanly possible for the MCAT. The key is excellence, not speed.
 
First things first, your username is amazing.

Gap year might be good for you to just get out take a breather. You don't have to, your GPA is good. Your EC's are good enough. If you do good on the MCAT, and don't apply like a dummy, you should be set.
