If we upload an additional letter of recommendation to amcas at this point will a school who hasn’t reviewed your file yet receive it? Or do schools only download amcas files once and don’t go back to receive any updates such as letters?

I think it depends on the school because you can consider it a letter of support as opposed to the required recommendation letters. I sent some around December and emailed admissions at different schools and they accepted it!

I actually did this for 3 schools yesterday. Does that mean they won’t receive it? (It was always in amcas, I accidentally didn’t send it to schools before yesterday).

They will receive it! I sent one on Friday. I think most schools have their respected deadlines for submitting supporting documentation. But letters of support can be considered “updates”.

if you had uploaded the letters to AMCAS by the deadlines then you can assign them to schools.

Ooh how do you refer to it as a letter of support instead? Changing the title of the letter on amcas?

Yup exactly! Because schools already have my required letters all additional letters that I’ve submitted are all letters of support. You can change the title and put letter of support!

Question about this... AMCAS asks you to resubmit your whole application to AMCAS after you make the letter additions... does that affect anything? It feels freaky to click that button again

Nope it just updates the letter you added.

You need to alert them. Otherwise they won't know it's there.

Doesn't affect anything. But not doing it doesn't allow the med school to actually receive it.
