So I took the DAT today and I was actually stoked on my scores unitll I saw the big 😱 ONE FOUR on the QR!!! I"ve put the most time into it, because I know that it is my weakness, needless to say the many hours obviously didn't pay off like I had hoped.

My question: Is this DETRIMENTAL???
I realize that an 18 isn't that competitive, I don't have my degree, and I took Kaplan.

I can handle honesty. Thanks for taking your response. :scared:

well, yes a 14 is not desirable, but definitely doesnt mean that you dont gota shot, especially since its in RC. check out what schools care for, and if your really worry, apply to a few schools that rank RC as not important. your overall numbers 18,19,19 is still avg for most schools. So dont worry, if you got high GPA as well as Extracurriculars....dont even be scurred. good luck in applying.

teethpulla..his RC is fine..it's his QR he's concerned about..also i wouldn't consider 18s and 19s to be avg

swolf, what's ur gpa? that will probably be the deciding factor..the rest of ur scores are pretty solid though so i don't know what to tell u..do u think u would improve if u were to take it again? u say u spent lots of time preparing for it so perhaps this is the best u can do and u should just tell the adcoms that..i mean honestly math has so little to do with dentistry they have to look past it

I had QR-14 and still managed to get interviews. My other DAT scores are similar to the OP's, but my GPA is 3.5, Sci 3.4.

Good Luck.

I had a 14 in QR too. I had only a 17 AA and a 16 PAT and I got a lot of interviews and multiple acceptances right on Dec. 1st. My gpa was high, though. 3.5 both sci and overall. If your GPA is high don't worry too much. Just don't count on Harvard or anything. 😉

Some dental schools look at your overall AA and PAT and don't care if you got 14 on one of the section, especially math. The sooner you apply the more chances you get. I applied on the earliest day possible and already got 3 interviews. My DAT is 18/19/20 and I did get 15 for QR. And GPA isn't that great neither 3.30

Good Luck

Applicants I met at my interviews had somewhat low DAT scores (16's and 17's). At this stage of the game, people with average DAT scores (nationally) dominate AADSAS. It's very well known, people with 20+ DAT scores take over at later stages of the cycle, and they are the ones who are most likely to get interviews post-Dec 1st, because that's when the competition gets tougher.

SWOLF....
Welcome to the club!!!! There was a thread about this a couple weeks ago when some of us were checking it out as well. We scored almost exactly the same with a point difference on one or two of the SNS sections. Either way, an 18/18 is good. No worries about the 14, even though I had the same reaction you had when I got my 14 in QR. Keep in mind there may be reasons that you scored a little lower. For myself, I just have a hard time doing math in my head, it's always been like that. Even when writing stuff down, I'm kind of slow. Also, I've never taken Trig, or physics, and I guarantee those would have helped on the DAT. Either way, you don't need to bring it up, but if asked, be honest. Let them know that it may be somewhat of a weakness, but given a little more time and a calculator for speed, you can do just fine. Maybe it's justification, but there's a difference between reasons and excuses. Everybody has weaknesses...mine just happens to be math. Maybe yours too, but that's not going to prevent you from anything. As long as you did your best, that's all that counts. By the way, all that tells you is you will hire an accountant. (lol) Good luck

wow, I love all the help. SDN to my rescue!!

To respond about my gpa, It's about 3.4 overall, 3.5 Sci. My only thing is that i'm applying w/o my degree (which i'm working on). So when those of you that said you got interviews and acceptances, I don't know if i'll be in that same boat because you guys probably had your degrees. Anyway, I'm just in a weird place because it was such a huge weight lifted when I walked out of that test, and know it makes me sick to think that I might have to take it again. Who know's if I will do as well on the rest of the sections. I'll really have to hire a personal QR tutor to improve at all. I couldn't have worked any harder on any section. I studied for 10 hours a day since july 22 (when my summer o-chem) got out.
Anyway, thanks again y'all!!! 😍

I didn't have my degree. 😀 I got plenty of interviews and mutliple acceptances, like I said.

you make it sound like the DAT doesn't matter, or at least in your case. Not everyone has a 3.5 gpa and the DAT is the only thing saving there arse. I think your incredibly lucky to get multiple acceptances with a 17 DAT. Thats great that you got in, but in all reality, a 17 DAT doesn't cut it anymore.

the guy or girl that got a 14 in qr, just call the schools that your applying too, becuase they might have an unwritten rule stating that scores have to be a 15 or better to be considered. There are schools, that explicitly state this on there web, and others that quietly reject you becuase you had a score lower than a 15.

Of course I think the DAT matters. But if you have a good GPA you can get lesser scores and be in the same boat as someone with 20's and a low GPA. The DAT matters, (duh) but it isn't the SOLE thing they look at. As far as me being "lucky" to get in. I don't think so. I would have been "lucky" if I got in at only one school. But that wasn't the case so I don't consider myself lucky! Oh, and a 17 DOES cut it. Many schools have averages in the 17/18 area. That means that there are people getting in with LOWER than that. So to the OP: Don't stress yet. I fell into this trap of people thinking I didn't have a fat chance in hell of getting in and all it did was give me an ulcer. (jk) If it is around December and you don't have any interviews yet, then start worrying. But just chill and be PROUD of your scores. Because you should! 👍

I think it is great that there are people who are human responding to this. Most people that post stats love to talk about how their stinky 20 on the DAT is going to hurt them. Thanks guys for being real, this makes me feel a lot better!!! I think a 17 is a great score, it still takes a lot of studying and work to achieve that, unless you have two heads.

ya, I am pleased with my score, I just hate the fact that if I would have done better on the QR, not only would I not be stressing that one low score, but it wouldn't have dropped my average down, and I would have made a shirt with a big "19" on it and worn it around town with a perm-a-smile. just kidding but, I am going to relax for a while,.. thanks agian. 😴
