Keep the major. More than 55% of the people who take the MCAT and apply to medical school don't get in so to have a solid job to fall back on for a year or two as you prepare to reapply (if need be) would be a good safety net.

Be sure to have some shadowing (once it is allowed again) and, as you've mentioned, the clinical volunteering, so that you really understand what it is that you are getting into. I have had some very qualified medical students in my small groups over the years who came by way of TFA and similar programs to provide teachers in schools that are hard to staff.
