No, not even close.I'm a CA resident who goes to college OOS but I'd love to attend medical school in CA if possible. I grew up knowing about Loma Linda, since it's a school local to my state and knew that it was a religiously-affiliated school, but was under the impression that it was a somewhat secular Christian school like SCU/Pepperdine/LMU/etc.
I now know that SDA values are very predominant at the school. I was not super familiar with SDA values but upon further research it seems like some of their tenets (vegetarianism, abstinence from alcohol, etc) are similar to how I already live and it wouldn't really be much of an adjustment. I was raised religious in a Hindu household. I'm not very public about my faith but would not mind being in an environment where faith was more public/open. I also don't mind mandatory chapel attendance, since I quite enjoy learning about all kinds of different religious ideologies. I in fact spend some of my free time reading the King James Bible to learn more about Christianity, primarily for educational purposes.
Does Loma Linda accept Hindus/people of non-Abrahamic faith? All insights are appreciated.
You mean donation, right??? 🙂Thanks for the insights. I go to a non-religious private school on the East Coast which is pretty liberal so I'll admit it could very well end up being more of an adjustment than I anticipate it'll be. I also do lean socially liberal. I guess when my application cycle rolls around I'll decide whether that application fee is worth it.
Faith is central at this school, medicine as a tool to effect service to Jesus. This is really interesting. I didn't know that there were fully-accredited medical schools in the US that were so intertwined with religion.
I assumed that they were just slightly more serious about faith than some of the Jesuit schools like Creighton and Georgetown (albeit Creighton and Georgetown are virtually secular schools).
Yeah this is probably not for me.
Only Loma Linda and LUCOM fit this bill. This is really interesting. I didn't know that there were fully-accredited medical schools in the US that were so intertwined with religion.
