Y'all interviewing more people cause of virtual or nah? And do you think the Sept complete date still holds true?

I don't think we will interview more applicants.
I still think that a complete by date of Sept 15th is fine.

Are you at all worried that your yield might drop because people who in years past might have declined the II will now take all interviews because it is so easy in terms of time or cost, or is that just not a concern at your tier, or at all for anyone?

There are people who will refuse interviews after October/November because they have an offer they are happy with and don't want the expense of another interview. With interviews taking less time (no travel time) and costing almost nothing, it is likely that more people will say "yes" to an interview. How that will influence yield remains to be seen. Some superstars may have more offers and the yield will be lower for each school with that subset of students (yes, some people turn down Harvard for Hopkins, they turn down Hopkins for Stanford, and I'd bet that someone has turned down Stanford for Harvard... and so it goes).

This was exactly my thinking. And while it's certainly more a candidate problem than a school problem, if schools don't adjust for this by either offering more interviews or doing a little yield protecting on the front end (admittedly, this is probably impossible for the top tier schools to do!), the result is that while the schools will be fine if they have to dip a little deeper into their WLs, some candidates who would have received interviews in years past simply won't while the interviews are virtual, because those spots will be taken by candidates who would have turned them down in the past, since it will cost them nothing in time and money to give you a chance to "wow" them. I guess it just sucks to be us. 🙁

I doubt we will interview more candidates. September should be fine.

Hey, just wanted to bump this for an update. Are most of you adcoms @gyngyn @LizzyM @gonnif are you guys still seeing that you are ahead of schedule? What do you think is a "on-time" complete date now? Is it still labor day? Or is mid-september or early october still on time given COVID?
Why are you asking? Are you not in yet? Or, just bored and stirring the pot??? 😎

You know there is no official thing, and you know most schools are not hurting for applications, so what's the point? On time is prior to the deadline, and earlier is better than later. Today is later than yesterday, and earlier than tomorrow.

My read of the situation is that early Oct is still fine for MD.

You have to keep in mind that COVID has slowed down app processing, and more people are applying.

No, I'm only complete at 10 schools lol. I want to see how much I gotta pace myself at this point. Whether I should aim for 2 schools per day or 3. IF I should take some time off work to get this done.
Oh, sorry then!! I'm not an adcom, but common sense dictates you get them in ASAP. IIs have been going out since the end of July, and it's not getting any earlier. You're not going to turn into a pumpkin if you are not in before the end of September, but you ARE competing with literally thousands of applicants who are already complete. The less spectacular you are, the more you need to be in front of the adcoms sooner rather than later.

That said, nothing is going to change week to week from here on out, so I'm pretty sure the adcoms will have nothing to add other than you're in great shape due to COVID, while IIs are going out every day and you are still not complete!! 😎

That's interesting, cause gonnif and LizzyM seemed to indicate they app processsing was faster this year. Maybe their outliers? Is your school a bit slower this year?
I think you see the limitations of taking a few n=1 results from SDN and basing your application cycle on it. My strong advice to you is to not rely on any anecdotal evidence here. What's done is done, but please just push through and get your apps in. The evidence is widespread that apps are up this year, and PLENTY of them are in, and have been complete for over a month now.

You are not doing yourself any favors waiting another month because one (or even a few) anonymous experts on SDN tell you they think it should be okay. Where is your money back guarantee if it isn't? Adcoms here might be spot on in whatever they tell you, or they might just have a personal opinion based on what's going on at one school, that you might or might not be applying to.

And even then, their opinion might or might not be based on what's actually happening -- it might just be based on their impression of what is happening. Even though it very well might end up being okay, I wouldn't bet my future on taking my time over the next month, no matter what anyone told me, unless it was coming directly from the director of admissions at each and every school I wasn't yet complete at, rather than from the anonymous experts we have all come to know and love on SDN. JMHO.

Applications are way up, but processing speed is about normal.

Do you guys review in chronological order though? Would someone with more competitive stats be reviewed earlier for example?
Also, what do you think is a fine complete date considering apps are up?
It has been mentioned numerous times in these fora that applications are not processed in order of receipt.

Cream rises to the top. It is possible to sort the pool in any number of ways and prioritize applications to be reviewed and applicants to be invited for interview. I'm sticking with 9/15 at the date your application should be complete including letters and secondary submitted.

Just get them done asap, there is too mich stress over the perfect completion date

I speak for myself and not for any association or organization to which I belong in this statement.

From my perspective listening to AMCAS admissions peers within the last few days/weeks, nothing has been delayed. Interviews are happening at schools where those were already scheduled early, and in spite of any technical issues, everything seems to be going full-steam ahead and follows previous schedules (individual schools may vary, but I think everyone has made or will prepare for adjustments it appears). As a result, none of the suggestions to applicants regarding perceived timelines for submitting applications should change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
