What motivated you to take BS/DO program? Does LECOM let you apply out with loosing the guaranteed admission?Hello,
First year undergrad student here. I have the opportunity to do the 7 year 3+4 bs/do with lecom. The benefits to this would of course be not taking the mcat and having a chill overall undergrad experience. I am considering this since I will most likely go fm/em/im for residency most likely.
Another option for me could be just doing the three years of undergrad left and taking a gap year and applying broadly to both md/do. I would take the summer after the second year for mcat and the summer after my third year to focus on my applications. This option seems intriguing as well due to the possibility of going md not do. I was thinking applying after my second year to both md/do but it would just be too much since I’d have to take the mcat the same time I apply.
Any advice would be welcomed. I don’t really see myself pursuing a specialty that I would need to go to md school for. The lecom option also seems better since I could finish a year earlier. But i might change my mind and could have more future leverage with the md option. I know it’s harder to for DOs to match into the fm/em/im programs MDs match into so I need to consider that as well.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.
Then you know what your choices are. Bird in hand or take your chances. Why would you allow yourself to be influenced by what a bunch of strangers on the internet think you should do?@srk2021 no they do not let you apply out. That’s the dilemma. If they did, I would just use it as a backup.
Isn't that the purpose of SDN?Why would you allow yourself to be influenced by what a bunch of strangers on the internet think you should do?
Very hard to apply out from 7 Yr programs. Do you have an option to convert to 4+4?@srk2021 no they do not let you apply out. That’s the dilemma. If they did, I would just use it as a backup.
No -- not to tell you what your favorite color should be, or whether or not it is foolish to be risk averse. I think it's to share information and experiences. Not to tell you how to think. That's what CC is for!!! 🙂Isn't that the purpose of SDN?
That's the point -- there is no applying out. If you want to apply out, you don't apply in!! 🙂Very hard to apply out from 7 Yr programs. Do you have an option to convert to 4+4?
some do, but it's hard. OP is better off going to CC for that help. That's the point -- there is no applying out. If you want to apply out, you don't apply in!! 🙂
It's more than that. People ask if they should apply or not apply. I agree BSMD/DO is more suited for CC.No -- not to tell you what your favorite color should be, or whether or not it is foolish to be risk averse. I think it's to share information and experiences.
