Look, I have no idea. And this is a touchy subject on this forum.

My only thought is this: most of the people who are going to determine your fate are older (45ish+). All it takes is one of them to go, “Why would a transgendered man be trying to work with LGBTQ 8 year olds? 8 year olds don’t even understand their sexuality yet,” for you to not be accepted.

Again, more insight by people with more experience than me is probably needed; but I wouldn’t do or say anything that could even plausibly get me rejected in such a high-stakes process.

Best of luck!

It's going to be a hard road. Depending on who is determining your fate, it will either hurt or help. There are a few religious schools where it's an absolute app killer, obviously, but everywhere else it will fall to the biases of the adcoms reviewing your app

Hello everyone,

I am a transman who is applying to DO schools this cycle. I began my transition about 10 years ago and had sex reassignment surgeries. As a physician, I have an interest in serving the LGBTQ community (especially the youth).

I was wondering if this will affect my chances of getting an interview if I mentioned this in my personal statement. I am not sure if this has any contribution to “diversity”. I would like to know if this will make or break me.

I'd love to hear what you guys think about this.

Thank you in advance.
Honestly, it’s going to hurt you.

It *shouldn’t,” and in a perfect world it wouldn’t, but it will.

Your goal is to get into medical school and then residency. Do everything in your power to make that happen.

Medical school and residency is a long process during which you have basically no rights. Being in the cross hairs off ppl with different political/idiological/religious views could place you in very uncomfortable situations and could potentially impact your ability to succeed in med school and residency. That would be 100% unfair and rediculous, but could still happen.

This is America, where lots of ppl are racist and ignorant, so my advice to you is to set yourself up for success. Posters may flame me but I stand by what I’ve aeen

And for the record, I’m a cis white male but I’ve see friends get burned too many times....

Good luck and PM with any questions....
