Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first time posting here...

This is a very strange situation and my pre-med advisor basically told me she doesn't know how adcoms will react, so any advice would be appreciated.

I was abroad in London last quarter (spring 2020) and took both physics and ochem. Normally, both these courses transfer back to my US school for a letter grade and appear on my transcript just as any class I took in the US would.
Due to COVID, all classes from spring 2020 are universal P/F at my US school, even for students who were abroad.
I will have my original transcripts from London available, but am hoping to not need to send them in because I ended up with Cs in both classes (rough quarter) so maybe universal P/F is a blessing in disguise...
Either way, I'm curious how adcoms will view this, especially given that my sGPA is around 3.6, so not super high.
I'm planning on applying next cycle, so I could retake both in the US for a letter grade (albeit online), but would it look strange retaking classes that I already took and passed? This will also limit my ability to take other courses to boost my GPA, as I can't count the same course for credit twice.
This will be the largest "red-flag" on my app, so if it isn't a lethal issue, I'd hope to be able to get away with not retaking.
I don't think this will be a red flag at all for you. My understanding is that AMCAS does not accept foreign transcripts, so the only transcript they will see will be your US one, with the mandatory P/F. Since it was mandatory, it is out of your control, so it is what it is, and will not be held against you. No red flag, and no need to retake. Hopefully someone will confirm my understanding regarding foreign transcripts.
