My pre-med advisor thinks interviews will be virtual again, but if they’re in-person, then I guess I’ll just fly back lol. I don’t really want to take another year off. Do you have any thoughts on my school list? How do you plan to do interviews while in India if schools hold in person interviews? Have you considered putting off your application cycle for a year?
Thank you for your help! Yes, I'm hoping that my ECs and story will help make up for my GPA. I appreciate your kind words about Fulbright! You have good activities, especially that Fulbright - that will definitely catch some eyes! Your GPA is okay (the trend helps) and MCAT is very good.
I think Rutgers, Indiana, UWisconsin are going to be low yield for you. Otherwise I think your list overall is pretty solid.
Maybe look into some other research heavy schools where your GPA and MCAT are above the 10th percentile.

I'm gonna take out Rutgers and UWisconsin, but keep Indiana (Dad went there for business school and they have no secondary so why not).
Based on what you said, do you think Cincinatti, SUNY Downstate, UConn, and Toledo would also be low yield OOS public schools for me?
Also, do you have any suggestions for research-heavy schools? I was thinking of Duke, Case and Yale but I know these are major reaches.
They don't need the donation.I'm gonna take out Rutgers and UWisconsin, but keep Indiana (Dad went there for business school and they have no secondary so why not).
Alrighty then, I'll take Indiana off my list. Did you have any thoughts on the rest of my list? They don't need the donation.
I think I will keep Downstate, UConn and Toledo (has 25% OOS and low stats). You say you went to undergrad in NY, maybe SUNY Downstate will take that into account. Did you go to an undergrad with an associated public med school? Def apply to that if so. I think UConn may also give you a look as you're from a neighboring state.
Toledo probably is lowish yield - but if they have >25% OOS students go for it if your stats are in range.
Duke, Case, Yale are 100% reaches and unless your GPA is above the 10th percentile there, I wouldn't apply unless finances aren't a concern.

Thank you for your response. I already have GWU, and I will for sure be adding Creighton, TCU/UNT and Nova MD. I have heard that Loyola and Rush want people with really high volunteer hours - would my relatively low hours (300 clinical, 350 non-clinical) keep me from getting looks from those two schools?ADD: Creighton, GWU, TCU/UNT, NovaMD, Loyola, Rush
Drop Rush then.Thank you for your response. I already have GWU, and I will for sure be adding Creighton, TCU/UNT and Nova MD. Service to othersJust a sidenote: when they say high hours, are they talking community service, research or clinical?
I don't have any insight into whether interviews will be virtual again since it is all dependent on how the pandemic goes and the prevalence of any of the mutant virus variants. That said, you should reach out to schools who are near the top of your list to make sure you know how those schools might handle interviews for the next cycle. As more campuses appear to transition to more in-person learning, we have to see whether this would also be reflected in interviews. My pre-med advisor thinks interviews will be virtual again, but if they’re in-person, then I guess I’ll just fly back lol. Thank you very much for your suggestions! Is VCU worth applying to? Only 72/6651 OOS applicants matriculate (although this does make up 39% of their class). I noticed you took Virginia Tech off, but it's private, albeit with 34/3737 OOS matriculants. Do you think I'd have better luck at VCU or Virginia Tech? You have several state public schools that accept few non residents with your GPA. Also your GPA is low for some of the reaches. I suggest these schools with your stats:
UMass
Tufts
Boston University
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Hofstra
Einstein
Rochester
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
Georgetown
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Wake Forest
Miami
NOVA MD
Tulane
TCU-UNT
Creighton
St. Louis
Loyola
Medical College Wisconsin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
This is a great idea, thank you! What is the best way to go about reaching out to my top schools - should I send an email to their Dean of Admission?I don't have any insight into whether interviews will be virtual again since it is all dependent on how the pandemic goes and the prevalence of any of the mutant virus variants. OP is a MA resident and even Tufts has some instate preference.Awesome school list. Wondering why Tufts/UMass is on there tho? Aren't they too stats heavy?
