sounds like you cheated and got caught

I think so. I got screwed..
First step is admitting that and not making excuses. When they contact you, tell the truth and say it was a stupid careless thing to do and you regret it. Excuses will just piss them off more. Let the chips fall and do whatever they want to get yourself out of this.

I'm in an MPH program.
Fast forward, for one of the classes, I copied answers from online for one class exercise and the professor contacted my advisor about it. I was super tired and exhausted for 2 weeks from illness. The professor said he would take an action (not sure what it is) for it. The professor doesn't like me for many reasons..What should I do now? Can I even graduate?

???? You copied answers and you think you cheated and got screwed??
Nothing you can do at the moment, find out what action your professor is gunna take first and then go from there

As for graduating, I think that depends on your school policy so I would direct that question to your advisor.

As for getting into healthcare professional school, it will be tough. Adcom will doubt everything in your application. You got caught once, but that just means you cheated "at least" once. Your GPA is pretty much gone. Frankly, if I were in your shoes, I would start thinking about plan B.

I feel like your blowing this out of proportion. I mean it certainly won't help them at all, but it was just one class exercise. This seems like something very fixable after they take responsibility for what they did and speak with their school about how to deal with the situation. I think it should be something that they learn from, but I don't think they should just throw out their hopes of dental school because of it.

More importantly than getting caught cheating in my opinion is the extremely poor judgement this kind of behavior shows.

If a person is willing to cheat, are they also the type to take responsibility when a patient had a bad outcome?

Does this person have the professional integrity not to grift patients with unnecessary procedures when they have no qualms about academic integrity?

It really sounds like this poster is more upset about getting caught than about why they actually chose to copy answers.

i agree that a person can learn from a mistake and grow. I’ve screwed up loads of times. I also know that these behaviors are often a pattern rather than an isolated act of desperation.

Oh no. I didn't suggest he should give up, but I would suggest he should prepare himself for alternate career path if it doesn't work out because it is definitely something you don't want to have in your application.

If you have a great GPA with academic misconduct, adcom will question your contribution in it. If you have average GPA with academic misconduct, adcom will just go for another applicant with average GPA. That's why I said GPA is pretty much gone.

I agree that it definitely puts an asterisk on things. But if they take responsibility for it, face the consequences, and get very strong letters of recommendation I feel like they can make this look like a clear one time lack of judgement situation. That being said their attitude towards the situation seemed to be as if they don’t feel bad about it which is what is more concerning here.

Well first of all, we don’t even know if this will go on your record. Maybe you get a zero on the assignment, an incomplete and need to redo it, or perhaps it does go on your record (Personally I would try my best to reason with the professor before letting it escalate. But it might be too late now?). More than likely you will have a meeting with the disciplinary committee of your school to discuss the circumstance. If so, this will be the best time to take ownership of your actions and discuss what you learned from the situation. If you can come off sincere and regretful, there’s a solid chance the committee may be lenient. If you need help framing an argument, PM me.

If you do have academic misconduct on your record then that is obviously not good but it’s not the end of the world. Discuss this in your supplementals if there’s a question that allows you to. Many students have got in with convictions, DUIs, academic dishonesty etc. The school will want to see if the student has 1) accepted responsibility for their actions 2) has matured to a point where this event will not come up again and 3) that this action is not an accurate reflection of the students character. A strong LOR (ideally multiple) detailing your character would help.

Since no one on this site is an ADCOM, I would take everyone's opinion quite lightly, as they have no basis in fact or experience.
See what happens, you never know. Beware of urban legends on this site. Very few posters have any first hand knowledge, just conjecture.

you deleted your post so idk what you said but it seems like you didn't cheat on a test. That makes a big difference.

If the professors gives you a 0 on the assignment or fails you with no administrative action taken, take the L and retake the class next semester/quarter. If it's going on your record that's a lot harder. Apply, own up to your mistakes, prove that you are doing better and won't make the same mistake again. It's like that Skyrim quote: "What is better? To be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

You never know. Also you have a plan B so it's not like you're sol

Wait and see what happens! Don't stress over it too much, stress about it enough to not jeopardize your integrity again. Learn from this and keep going
