Hi,

I have seen similar forum posts about this question, but none that were really answered my question specifically.

I was writing the description for my publication on AMCAS and the current format looks like this:

"Author 1, me, author 3. Title. Journal (Year).
doi: __________

A brief 2-3 sentences about the project, results, etc"

Should I replace the doi with the PMID? Not sure if there is any preference

Also, would I need to explicitly say "I was second author", or would the current format of the citation having my name in it be enough?

Suggested Description:

1. Here is a sample journal citation (AMA format using PMID because not all libraries have DOI access at a publisher's site).

Catalystik JS, Goro KB, Moko LR. Cats are smarter than people. N Engl J Feline Med. 2021;246:1062-1071. PMID: 14989206. Provide a brief discussion about project, results, etc.

2. The citation shown above clearly indicates the identity of the second author (i.e., Goro KB).

Descriptions of PMID/PMCID/DOI):

1. PMID is a unique numerical identifier for an article in PubMed (such as 14989206 in the sample above). Every article included in PubMed has a PMID under the citation/abstract. It is distinctly different from PMCID and is used only for PubMed records.

2. PMCID is a unique reference number or identifier that is assigned to every full-text article that is accepted into PubMed Central.

3. DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is used to uniquely identify online objects such as journal articles or data sets. A DOI can take you directly to an online resource, but the library does not always have access at a publisher site.

I actually have multiple publications and had slightly different roles in each. Both were through the same lab though. I felt it would be unnecessarily wordy to include my specific contributions to each one as they were more or less similar with minor changes here and there (stuff like not being involved for the data collection for one, etc). But I do have a general line in the affiliated Research slot that goes like:

I participated in the research process at all levels, including the collection of data, statistical analysis, writing grant applications, and manuscript preparation.

Would that be sufficient, or should I really specify what I did for each publication?
That is sufficient.
